We live on the ground floor. Summer is coming up and i would like for my daughter to be able to open her window at night. If it opened horizontally (side-to-side) i could use a large broom stick handle or something like that. Any suggestions..? keep in mind we are renters so any alterations need to be reversible or at least minimal.

Thanks

I want a wooden patio set (oak), but am scared that the rain will ruin it. Walmart sells a set I like. I have never had a wooden patio set and am a little worried that I will waste my money if the weather damages it. Does anyone have one and do they recommend it?

I've started working on my porch, right now I'm sanding off the old paint but the wood is old and has some cracks.

Is there a way to fill them in that won't cause them to split further? I've thought of using wood filler, or sawdust mixed with wood glue.

Any suggestions?

I can rent one for next to nothing and I have had gophers at work all winter long...my front lawn needs leveling; but, perhaps time and the spring rains will do the job. Thanks for you help, in advance.

Hi, I have neighbors on all three sides of my yard without any privacy barriers.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good hedges (Or tree or bush) that provide good privacy in the yard. I'm looking for something that is inexpensive, as I will need many, and something that grows immensely fast with little care. Also preferably something that doesn't exceed 20 feet as I have power lines dangling over my yard. Please don't post any answers that don't fit into this criteria. Thanks.

I had to use Kilz to cover dark paint in a bedroom, how do I get it off me? and the paintbrush, I thought soap and water would do it, but it's not...Help, I have a white speckled face and hands! I can throw the paintbrush away, but, I'm afraid that's not an option with my body parts!

I can tell that whoever lived in my house before me used to smoke because of the yellow stains on the bathroom walls. I wipe down the walls, but everytime I shower and the room gets steamy the yellow stains come back. How can I get rid of it for good?

I'm interested in renting a water softener from Culligan and was just wondering how much it costs each month. I don't have the worst water, so I'll just be purchasing a basic one.

now that winter is gone I have ants everywhere in my bathroom and laundry room. I dont know why, its not like theres food in either of those places. I am constantly cleaning both rooms and they still come back. I have the ant traps that has the poisonous food that they supposedly take back to their colony and die off but they end up dieing right there in both rooms. Its like they find my house and they dont want to leave. What could be the cause of them and what can I use to get rid of them?

I have a white uvpc plastic back door. You lock the door by pushing the handle upwards which thrusts bolts into the door jam. On the inside, you unlock the door by turning a circular knob. Alternatively, the door can normally be unlocked by turning a key. On the outside, the only way the door will normally open is by turning the key.

Problem now is that both the key or the knob will turn but nothing happens! I've tried taking out the screws and removing the plate. This just reveals the key chamber but no obvious way of persuading the bolts to unlock!

Any simple steps I could try before calling in the professionals would be appreciated. I've tried giving the door a gentle knock!

I have a Touch n' Go garage door opener. I don't know how old it is (the house is about 20 yrs old, we just bought last summer). The remote works, but the external button does not. I've even crossed it at the terminals on the box, to no avail, so it's something inside.

How easy is it to replace the drive box? The door and chain all seem fine, but the circuit for the external button is shot, and I'd like to just replace it myself if I could. I know replacing doors often requires professionals, but what about just the box itself?
