I have a Touch n' Go garage door opener. I don't know how old it is (the house is about 20 yrs old, we just bought last summer). The remote works, but the external button does not. I've even crossed it at the terminals on the box, to no avail, so it's something inside.

How easy is it to replace the drive box? The door and chain all seem fine, but the circuit for the external button is shot, and I'd like to just replace it myself if I could. I know replacing doors often requires professionals, but what about just the box itself?

touch-n-go was a series made by OVERHEAD DOOR. it's been out of production for awhile, long before that bought genie. depending on the model you have, it might have a circuit board that is easily replaceable if you can find one. if you can't, you need to replace everything, the chain system comes with the powerhead. the door itself is a separate unit, if it's fine, you can just hook the opener back up to it. one idea though, you could buy another remote from an overhead dealer and screw it or double-side tape it to the wall. since you have no photocells you would ever need to override, a remote has all the same function as the push-button. just out of curiosity, have you tried to push the button twice? some models required this. the first push turned on the light and the second activated the drive.

What drive box are you talking about? Is it just the receiver or is it the whole opener? If it's just the receiver you can replace that if it just' wires into terminals on the opener.
