So we have ants in our house--not a huge trail or anything just a few here and there in each room. (thats the maddening thing--not knowing where they are coming from). Anyways, I was wondering which is better, to have the pest control come out and spray once, or have the service which is every other month but VERY expensive. We had a service come out last year and we've been ant free for about a year after that. Any suggestions?!?! TIA

I heard this once somewhere, that if you toss a couple in the dryer with your clothes they draw the satic out. Has anyone ever tried this? Also does anyone have any other suggestions other than static spray, fabric softener or dryer sheets?
Thanks!

My 2 yr old son decided that it would be a good idea to mash an apple flavored Tootsie Roll into our carpet. I have no idea how to remove this green, sticky mess. Please help!

I have an old 2 story house and the upstairs is wood flooring and they had the old style hard tile flooring which I am pulling up to refinish the wood underneath, but looks like they used tar to lay the tiles/lanolium. Or some kind of glue that doesn't come up. How do I get off so I can strip it down to the bare wood to refinish?

I have ornamental grass in my landscaping. A friend of mine told me that I was supposed to cut it back when it died before winter, but I never did. Will it grow back even though I didnt cut it? Will it help to cut it now?

I'd like to plant a flower border around my house but don't like to be outside when it gets hot. What are some good flowers I can plant that don't need much upkeep and can survive in very hot, dry Southern summer weather?

Hey!
We have a big maple tree in my backyard that the squirrels have been destroying. They chew the bark (to sharpen teeth) to such a degree that large branches are dying off. We only started having this problem within the last year or so. Squirrels have lived all around us for a lot longer than that. We already have traps out to catch them and release them elsewhere, but the tree is still losing large branches! Are there other non-toxic remedies (by the way, we cant kill them!)?

It sounds like it would be the motor. It still runs fine just makes noise most of the time. There will be times that it isn't as loud as others. Any tips on taking one apart or replacing them? Are they all pretty much universal? Thanks

I buy a parcel of property with no water, hire a well drilling company, and after drilling, it comes up dry...no water. So, the property is worthless. Can this type of event be insured so I can recover the cost of drilling, and the cost of the parcel of land?

So I'm deciding to make a career change, and right now one of the most promising opportunities seems to be going through an apprenticeship program. Since most of the ones I see start you at around $15 an hour, and give roughly $30 an hour once you reach journey level. I've seen a few so far such as carpenters, laborers, electrician, etc. But I don't know much about the industry so I'm not really sure which would be the best to get into right now.

Some of the most important aspects for me are...

1) I want there to be great advancement opportunity.
2) I'd like a job that is roughtly a 40 hour job, I can work overtime, but I really don't want to be pressured or required to work 50 or more hour weeks.
3) I don't want the work to be extremely backbreaking, I'm in great shape and can lift alot if needed here and there throughout the day, but I don't my job to revolve around grunt work.
4) I'd like to minimize my exposure to hazardous chemicals.
5) I want it to be overall enjoyable.

For some reason a smoke detector in my home is disconnected. There are three wires (black, red, white/tan) which are coming out of the wall, these wires correspond with the wires on the unit. Obviously I plan to hook this unit up by corresponding the colored wires together - however my concern is getting shocked. Is there one set I should be careful of? How should I do this to prevent getting zapped? Tips?

The existing sink is fiberglass with the drain in the center of the sink. My question is where can I find a model like this with the drain in the center of the sink. All the ones I have seen at Home Depot and Lowes have the drain in the back, towards the faucet, to make the install the same.

We have a leather 3 piece suite that is about 7 years old. It is deep pink (Dark Cherry) and I would like to know if it can be re-dyed to something like Mocho or coffee colour to match the room. It is very comfortable and generally unmarked hence a reluctance to replace it. Thanks
