Like two other people said, boric acid or Borax ( the name brand), is the best remedy. It's usually a powder that one sprinkles around the floorboards, and by electrical outlets.
I do this, paying special attention in the kitchen and doors leading outside. Whenever it floods or rains heavily I do this treatment again, because the roaches like to come inside. (I live in a tropical area that tends to get hurricanes and lots of roaches). Boric acid is definitely the best, but those roach traps are good for small roaches too.

Hi! Your question caught my eye, because I have a great way for you to get rid of roaches, fleas, etc.
First, get baking powder or baking soda, and get borax from the laundry soap section (about 2-$3 for the borax).
Sprinkle a little of the powder or soda in the very back and along sides of your cabinets (totally non-toxic). Open the wall outlets in the rooms where you have the largest problem (notice any roach droppings in the box? put extra and add baking soda), and drop a bit in the box (without touching the wires!).
Put Borax into something you can use to be able to sprinkle a fine powder, and sprinkle along the edges of any rooms (for fleas include small sprinkles in your carpet), behind beds, stoves and refrigerators.
I have loved these methods for years, and hope this helps!
By the way, roaches eat wiring and each other, when there's nothing else.

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.

I've heard this tip before: If you don't want cockroaches around, keep your house spotless. They can't live without food crumbs or water. Hope this helps!
