I've started working on my porch, right now I'm sanding off the old paint but the wood is old and has some cracks.

Is there a way to fill them in that won't cause them to split further? I've thought of using wood filler, or sawdust mixed with wood glue.

Any suggestions?

Epoxy based wood filler is the only way to go for porch flooring.

Also I went with an oil based primer after I sanded down my porch, then an oil based porch paint. Results have been very good.

A good wood filler is probably your best bet. There are a few two part (epoxy) types you might consider because they tend not to expand or contract and they are more durable and may work better in traffic areas.

Be sure to use a quality top coat made specifically for porch floors.
