I had a plastic sports bottle fall on the element and burn and now I can't get the smell out of the dishwasher. I have washed the same load three times now and it still smells pretty bad and the smell is stuck to the dishes. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the horrible smell?

I clean my coffee maker regularly, more often than is recommended in the manual that came with it, but still can't get all the pink gunk out of it. Would not having it set to start automatically make a difference?

K, I could never figure out why our dishwasher did a junky job cleaning dishes. I have been buying organic dishwasher detergent for years. Well, I decided just once to buy non-organic. Cascade actually. 1/2 the price, and twice as big! Anyways, it TOTALLY washes my dishes. Works SOOOO well. Problem is, it smells like a chemical bomb when it's washing them, and when I take out the dishes they smell like that too, especially all my daughters plastic cups. I have to decide between 1) really clean dishes that may be harmful to our health or 2) not clean dishes that cost a heck uva lot more.

Anyone out there find any organic products that work, or perhaps non-organic that is maybe not so chemically bad?

I have a GFI outlet in a second floor bathroom. Using a hairdryer in that outlet causes an odor detectable on the first floor of the house. It is an old house (if that makes any difference). Any suggestions as to what is causing the problem?

My back yard has about a dozen wild cats living in it. The previous renters used to feed them and I don't know how to get rid of them. I've obviously not fed them, but they're still here. I've heard that filling old milk bottles with water and placing them around the yard will help, but I'm skeptical. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. I want to get rid of them before they breed!

Our church just put in new windows. We had candles in the windows over the holidays. Somehow the wax from the candles got onto the window pane. How do you get it off without scraping the glass?

I just moved into a home that has filthy shower doors. Not only is there a ton of soap scum & a bad odor, but the bottom of the doors have a bunch of gunk caked up in the cracks. Also, is it possible to replace the seal between the door & the metal frame? It has become reddish brown in color from all of the filth.

I have several bags of maternity clothes stored in the garage. The garage has recently been invaded with field mice coming in from the cold.

I'm afraid to open the bags of clothing, for fear that mice have left droppings -- or worse -- nested in there. Any advice on how to go about tackling this job? Is it even safe for me to be doing this, as I am pregnant?

P.S. If I do find droppings, what is the best and most effective way to wash the clothes? Recommend a heavy duty detergent, if you know of any, thanks.

It has been two years, now! I honestly don't think it's completely that I'm lazy & won't admit it. Like something going on in my head, maybe? I love being able to say " Look what I did, all by myself." But then I always have to say " I just need to paint that (or fix that) and I'll be all done." People who know me well, are probably thinking 'Sure you will.' I know there's alot of other people who do the same thing. Thanks

We have a very tall (over 7 feet) maple tree in our front yard. It was here when we moved in several years ago. It has always budded in the spring and shed those leaves in the fall. But recently the leaves were only growing on the trunk. And we have had a few days of very windy weather and a lot of the branches (even the big ones) have just snapped off. My husband actually pulled a large branch off by gently tugging on it. Is it dead? Or should we just trim off all the branches and leave the trunk?

I recently purchased a 2 family house, house is divided upper and lower (1st floor is 1 fam and 2nd floor is 2nd fam). Anyways, there are two seperate circulator pumps, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The wire from the upstairs thermostat was cut off at the boiler at some point before we purchased this house. Now that we have made repairs and restored the second floor , we cannot figure out where these thermostat wires for the second floor should go into .... the solenoid attached to the boiler ?
The solenoid appears to only have inputs for 1 thermostat which is ours on the first floor. With those inputs taken up by our thermostat where in the world should the upstairs thermostat be wired to ? Any help is appreciated.

I'm looking to buy a jig saw. I already own a off brand miter saw and a Ryobi circular saw. I have a small project to use it for now, but in the future I'm not sure yet. What features should I look for? Is a $30 at 3.5 amps good enough for most things or do I need to go with a $50-$60 one with @ 5 amps? What do you think?

I am going to be building a new home. Nothing huge, I’m single, no kids. I’m thinking a two bedroom one floor finished basement. Some sort of cottage or bungalow type deal. I’m starting a list of what it must have. As in a garage with a door leading into a mud room and then the kitchen? Or into an entry way next to the front door? Steps from the garage down into the basement? I guess I’m asking about basic convenient layout. What about your homes layout do you like? What do you wish you had? What don’t you like?

One thing I do want even though it will be a smaller home is a decent sized entry. I visit new homes, even larger ones, and all of the company ends up on this tiny bit of tile in the entry way falling over each other, the kids and the dog trying to put shoes on and off.
