I just moved into a home that has filthy shower doors. Not only is there a ton of soap scum & a bad odor, but the bottom of the doors have a bunch of gunk caked up in the cracks. Also, is it possible to replace the seal between the door & the metal frame? It has become reddish brown in color from all of the filth.

Mold may be removed by using bleach , such as Clorox, in a spray bottle. I find that the best way to remove soap scum is to take a fresh box cutter razor blade, hold it at an angle and scrape the scum off the glass. It works a lot better than scum removal products that never work.

Go to the hardware store and buy muriatric acid. Have someone take the doors off and get steel wool and start cleaning with the muriatric acid following directions of course. This is the only thing that really cleans the scum and dirt off shower doors. All that other stuff like KaBoom and Orange Glo is just garbage. I don't know if I am spelling it right, but the hardware store will know what you mean. Wash thoroughly and then clean with Windex. Replacing the seal I believe is a difficult job, but ask the hardware store clerk if it can be done. He will know. If it only reddish brown and dirty, clean it with the same muriatric acid I mentioned and the filth and scum should come off. I wish you luck. With a little elbow grease and time, the shower doors will be as good as new.

Yes!

We bought those door seals for your house doors, the hard rubber. Trimmed it to size and took off the old seal and my husband put some screw in the new one. It's still there and holding strong!

The way I clean the door is first lay down a old towel or newpaper along the floor on the outside and just spray down the door with some cleaner for soap scum and hard water deposit. Like I think we have scrubbing bubbles.

Then I let it sit and run down the door. I will turn on the shower and face the shower head towards the door and let it rinse.

Depending how bad it is. I take a scrub brush and scrub it while the dirt is moist and soft and loosen it.

Then to get the odor, I take clorox bleach spray and saturate the whole door, which will run down and just let it soak while I am gone during the day.

*Crack a window* The bleach is harsh but works wonders.

Then I sometimes throw on some flip flops step in a scrub the trouble spots and then rinse the whole shower.

Just plain vinegar, a bucket, and strong brush really worked well too.

It's a lot of scrubbing.

Good Luck!

we have cleaned many showers as contractors and have found a product in ASDA called Detox, its in a detol spray bottle green in colour ( UK, shop ). This also will clean the red active mould. But if you still require to replace the seal you will need to find the make of door so that you can order the seal.

Gross!

My suggestion (although youmight not want to do it.) Is to take the doors completely off and take them outside with some CLR and after rinsing them really good, clean them with bleach to disenfect them. Clean the shower really good and then re calk them and put them back in again.

The tracks get filthy and nothing can really get in there good enough to clean them out unless you take the whole thing apart.

It is not as hard as it sounds and worth it... believe me!

X-14 or Bam will do a good job on the scum. You may have to spray it several times. Scrub with a scrub brush or nylon net. You may need to re-grout it. Call a plumber to re-grout and re-seal.

I would use a mold and mildew cleaner like Oxy Clean or something, but it might actually be more sanitary to just replace it.
