My back yard has about a dozen wild cats living in it. The previous renters used to feed them and I don't know how to get rid of them. I've obviously not fed them, but they're still here. I've heard that filling old milk bottles with water and placing them around the yard will help, but I'm skeptical. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. I want to get rid of them before they breed!

Feral cats can be a problem.

The Animal Control and/or ASPCA is your first option; but there are others. There may be a Feral Cat organization near you:

If it were me, I'd seek out the previous moron renters and feed them to the wildcats. Just a little sweet revenge.

The cats are trained. They know that sooner or later, if they go to your backyard they will get food. The food might end up being you.

Sadly, and something that the whiney class PETA types will be offended by, the only way to rid yourself of this problem is to kill the cats. Yeah, you can call animal control and they will temporarilly solve the problem by capturing the animals and moving them. But they will find their way back.

I strongly urge you not to poison them. I do have a heart, and cannot bear the though of the poor animals dying a slow and painful death. Rodents, no problem. Poison away. Cats - big problem. It would be much less painfull to simply learn how to shoot straight and place a bullet in their head and killing them instantly. Draw a bead on them, exhale and squeeze. Can't miss.

Besides that, you last option is to move and sell the wild cat food source to some other limp-wristed girley man that wants to be one with nature.

Please dont harm the cats, dont buy any poison or bb guns thats going extreme. It's not your fault or their fault why they keep returning. The previous renters showed them that they will have food there by feeding them and they multypied to a dozen you said, thats a lot! Please call animal control for your local area and tell them about the plroblem. More than likely they will show up quickly at your house due to the number of wild felines around. Most likely they will set out cat traps that look like small cages and bait them w/cat food and catch them one at a time.
What county do you live in? I can give you the correct number to call to help you w/ that problem.
Good luck, Liz

Some areas have a foundation for the purpose of catching and neutering stray or feral cats. They use humane traps and work with local Vet's. Try calling the local SPCA or Animal Control. The traps can also be bought on many online pet supply sites.

or buy some vermin traps at the tractor supply store for about 80.oo a piece, then bait them in by leaving peanut butter bread around, and then after a few times of that,, place the traps that close when they get in safely and eat the bread,, then take them to the county away from folke and farms,, they can live wild on mice and birds like before we interupted their lives

It's called a Rainbird. A sprinkler that comes on when it detects motion. Cats hate water.

Also, beware there are a lot of animal abusers that will say nutty things for this question.

Remember the commercial about "herding cats"? You might call animal control and watch a cat rodeo when they come to you house. You might get a mean dog who hates cats. I don't know where you live, so I don't know if a BB gun to the butt area would be allowed. Face it, your cat invasion is similar to the illegal immigration problem: Until you are ready to shot them, they won't go away.

the best way to get rid of cats are moth balls or orange peels or you can call the shelter or spray them with water when ever they are there
