For some reason we have to turn our thermostat all the up on 80 just to have the heat pop on in our house and for any hot air to come out of the vents. It is like 30 degrees outside so it should be able to pop on at a lower temp. Something has got to be wrong but we aren't sure where to start. Could it be the thermostat that is broken or the heating unit itself.

I ran a 6/3 wire from my breaker box to my garage, for a welder.
I first check the voltage on each leg of the plug and it reads 123volts on each leg so this should be the 240v that the welder needs to run. It's a 225lincoln. When I plug it in and hit the switch i get nothing. The welder is brand new out of the box.
thanks for you help I have 123v on each leg, red and black, white on nuetralt, the bare gound is connected in the breakerbox but not at the plug because I couldn't find a place for it to go

ok someone told me that i could level my floor by offsetting the sister joist up to a half. meaning the original joist are not level and the new sister joist could be the joist holding the subfloor if i offset them by half inch or less and level them. they would more than likely be setting higher than the original towards the middle of room/house to make level with the joist on the backside and the front side of the house which are setting about an 1/8 to a 1/2 inch higher than toward the middle because of settling. do you think this is a good idea ? will it work ? will it hold ? im using 2x8 inch joist which were the original in the house and i have already purchased. one other question is would i lose any strength or stability for which i want to lay tile over it ?

I just moved into an apartment which is adjactent to a busy street. At night, I can hear all the traffic outside. Is there anything I can apply to my windows that will reduce the sound coming from outside. Replacing the windows is not an option since it is an apartment.

I have recently been having fun making some random crafts with whatever materials I find around. I went for a walk in the woods today and got pine pitch on me by accident - it smelled wonderful and the smell followed me around all day. Is pitch flammable? If so, does it leave a residue? I am wondering if it would be possible to use it as an ingredient in a scented candle or similar item.

I have a beautiful garden in my front yart in the Spring and Summer. It comes back year round. In the winter months it is empty and plain because everything has died. What can I plant to make my garden as enjoyable then as in the spring and summer. I would prefer plants that come back on their own. I live in Western Central region of Alabama.

Ok. We just bought a new house that was "freshly painted." It looked great prior to purchasing the house, but now that it is ours and after closer inspection, we can see that a second layer of paint should have been applied in certain areas. It's a white, flat paint and when we try to rub out scuff marks, some of the paint comes off. I now know this is probably cheap paint but we really don't want to repaint the entire house if it is not necessary. Also, a friend came over today, and her little girl spilled red kool-aid down one of the walls. The red tint is gone, but there is large drip stains going down the side of the wall. Rubbing it only takes the paint off. If we repaint this area, it would look bad to just do in this area, right? I hope I am but at this point we really don't know of any other ideas. We REALLY don't want to repaint the house yet because there are other projects we would like to do, but this problem is going to bug me until something is done! Suggestions?

I'm renting an apartment in a few weeks and would like to know your opinion on whether I can hang a heavy pot rack in the kitchen. It will require molly bolts to hold the pot rack secure. I know that this would not be a typical wall hanging, but would it be OK if I was sure to smooth over the holes and paint when I move? The same question goes for Roman Shades in the windows. Now there are cruddy Venetian blinds, and I would like to replace them with Roman Shades that have hardware inside the window frame. I would leave the neutral (tan/beige) shades when I left, and also save the crummy Venetian blinds, so actually they would be getting a good deal on the blinds. Should I ask my landlord first? I'm afraid he'll say no the to potrack, and I really want to hang it. Does anyone really know what I can do and can't do in a rented apartment as far as hanging things goes? I'd sure appreciate your input on this. Warm regards.

I have about decided on planting Tsuga Canadensis (Canadian or Eastern Hemlock) as my evergreen hedge along my driveway blocking my neighbors property.
1. how many different varieties are there of Tsuga Canadensis? Are they very similar or different? I am referring to Canadian Hemlock or Eastern Hemlock.
2 I saw a picture that looks absolutely beautiful with this trimmed as a hedge. I have 50 feet to make this hedge. How many 3-4 foot shrubs do I need and how far do I space them apart???
3. Also how long will it take for it to grow from 3 feet to 6-8 foot nice full hedge?
