I want to start my plants from seeds and cannot find a site that does not offer idiotic things like seed warmers, intricate seed planting bulb crap etc. I am just a down to earth do it myself kind of person. I first attempt failed miserably (mold, gnats, spindly plants). Any ideas?

Hello everyone,
I would like to grow a lawn from scratch in Tokyo, and am wondering about which seed is best to purchase. The locals prefer zoysia, which is okay as a display garden, but too tough and spikey for my kids to play on. Also, it goes dormant and brown and ugly in winter.
Ideally, I would like to have an all-year-round soft green lawn on which my kids can play. Tokyo is very hot and humid in summer (28C average), and cool and very dry in winter (8C average). It is occasionally as hot as 40C, and sometimes we have overnight frosts. Is there a grass variety which could survive and be healthy all year round in these conditions?
Thanks in advance!

Our roof is very large (2 pitches) and is 150 years old. The problem is we keep losing slates and then having to do massive internal repairs because of the damage caused. My question is should we get the whole roof replaced? I dont know what our other options are - can a roof be sealed?

I have a new puppy who is being house trained as we speak. However, her little accidents on my carpet have been cleaned with 1001 carpet stain remover - this in turn has left light marks on the carpet. So I was thinking when she has finshed house training I will clean the carpet with carpet shampoo and hire a machine to do this. However, I have wood parquet flooring underneath the carpet that I don't want to ruin. I am worried it will be ruined by the carpet shampoo. Has anyone got any experience in this?

All of my yard has hardpan adobe clay soil. Amending the soil would be a lot of work. I'm wondering if I can find some appealing plants that would grow well in clay soil.

We live in a post-war home with lath and plaster walls. My daugters bedroom wall has holes in it and the plaster is so loose you can push it in and out. I want to knock the plaster off the wall down to the laths and put up drywall. Best way to do it??? Also we have the thick 6 inch high baseboards that dont come off so keep this in mind. I have to make the drywall go to the baseboard smoothly with no hangover. Hopefully this makes sense.

We have a new home and the master bath has a standard shower wall kit and a separate garden tub. I'm trying to find out if there is an extension that you can add on to the shower wall kit to make the shower larger. Moving the door out and adding on to the shower? Or, are the shower wall kits a standard size or can I get one that is deeper but not wider? Any suggestions? Thanks
