My husband says it helps to cirrculate the heat. Im not sure. we've never had a fireplace before. Its cold and I want the max heat from the fireplace. Whats up with the switch?????

the fan is to distribute the heat out into the house, otherwise most of you heat would be leaving by way of the chimney.

The fan you are turning on pulls the heated air from around the firebox and distributes it to the room. So if you want to use your fireplace to heat up the house turn it on.

I believe you are speaking of a blower.
Start the fire let it heat up the fire place a bit ...
Then turn it on it will help push the heat out into the room.

Yeah turn it on, the room will heat up quicker and you wont have to sit right by the fire to get the benifits -

If its red the do it....if not then dont bother.
It just doesnt sound that interesting.

It sounds like the fan is a lighting aid?

Definitely use it, as it will circulate warmth throught the room(s) better.
