Earthworms have major benefits for the soils fertility, but you
can buy chemicals from garden centers to kill them, but why not brush the casts off with a stiff broom.

Worm casts indicate earthworm activity. They help breakdown organic matter, aerate the lawn, and add beneficial bacteria for the lawn roots. However, too many casts are felt to be unsightly by some lawnowners.
You could go the pesticide route, such as with diazinon or a carbaryl, but how about trying for a balance with Nature. Invite more birds into your yard with nesting areas, barring of animal predators (cats and dogs), birdbaths, etc. Robins are particularly fond of earthworms and a pleasant bird to have around. The birds will put some balance back in the earthworm population but won't eradicate them.
Otherwise, just run a rake over the little mounds from time to time while the ground is still moist. Worm castings are prized by growers as a fertilizer / soil additive (link below).

This is a longshot but it might work. With snow and rain there's nothing better that worms to like than nice soft wet earth and push out through the surface. Why not make it harder for them. If you've got a heavy roller....roll your lawn regulary and make the ground harder. The harder the ground is...the harder the worms will have to try to push out.
