Contact a landscaper to plan it and connect the double-check valve that isolates the system from the public water supply. Rent a trenching machine to create the trenches. Contact your utility companies to avoid cutting buried pipes and cables. Buy the parts and install. Don't cover the trenches until you have pressure tested the system for leaks and cycled the controller through all the stations to ensure that all heads are operating. Adjust the heads for full coverage of the desired areas.

The Lowes website is a good start. When clamping the poly pipe, double clamp the fittings and triple clamp the valves. Use Schedule 40 PVC for the mainline. I would recommend an PVB instead of the AVB they show in the picture, unless you come off a hose bib. I do not recommend using the heads that Lowes or Home Depot sell. They are the cheapest models from those manufacturers. Find a sprinkler supply house by you and get Hunter valves and I-20 heads. You will pay more, but they will last much longer. Add a rain sensor to your system. It will shut the system down if it rains and save water and money. Invest in a pair of PVC cutters and a pair of Poly pipe cutters. It will be worth the extra money to save the aggravation and sore wrists. You will also need a pair of crimpers. The screw down clamps do not work as good as the crimped clamps.

you didn't mention how big is your yard.
my guess is it must be big that's why you need a sprinkler system installed.
for such a job i don't recommend DIY instead contact your neigbourhood landscaper and get his service and price quote.
get at list 3 quotes from different landscaper and compare their services offered before you decide.
