I already asked this question but must have put it in the wrong catogory because the people who answered did not know what they were talking about. I had a new rolled up carpet stored in the garage while I rehabed a house. Unknown to me about 2 gal of antifreeze was spilled on the floor in the garage and the carpet soaked it up. It was there about 1 month. I discoved this when we went to install the carpet. The antifreeze evaporated but left an oily feel and a bad smell of antifreeze. What is the best way to get the smell out and the oily feel off?

I am buying a home in California and was disappointed to learn that my appraisal for my lender came in exactly at the negotiated sales price of the home. I later learned that he appraiser was provided the sales price of the home. I refuse to believe that it is merely a coincidence that the appraisal is exactly the same as the sales price. I believe this a huge bias for an appraiser that prevents them from being objective and deriving a truly independent valuation. I also suspect that they "did the math backwords" in getting to their appraisal amount.

When I questioned the appraiser she was emphatic that having the sales price is essential and in fact in California, as of 1 Jan 07, all appraisers are required to review the sales contract.

Any suggestions? Is there a way to get a good appraisal done w/out the bias of having the sales price known?
At first I thought the appraiser was stating the home was worth at least the appraised amount-but was told she came to exact amt.

There are a little over 100 of us living at the Hidden Urban Gnome Reserve & Sanctuary and we're not sure if we have a population problem or if we can still accept more Gnomes at HUGRS. How many Gnomes can really live here without us being overpopulated? http://www.geocities.com/gnome_reserve (google "hidden urban gnome reserve & sanctuary")

Also, would it be a good idea or not, to even run the ceiling fan (it's in my six-month-old daughter's room), since we have a forced hot air heater and the dust can get bad at times. I try to keep it (the dust) down to a dull roar and we run a humidifier in her room, but I was just wondering if the ceiling fan would help circulate the heat better, or if it would just stir up allergens? And if we should run it, which way? Thanks. :)

Hi all

I need to temporarily move some pipework. Is it ok to unscrew a compression joint, then later to refit the joint using the same olive and the same connection?

Or do I have to cut off the olive and start again further up the pipe.

What is the official rule on this?
Thanks
Matt

my retarded boyfriend bought a dirt devil featherlite vacuum, but i don't think he realized he purchased a remanufactured one. It wored fine for a hot second, until the belt broke. and i have replaced that belt like 5 times, and then i noticed the thing i put the belt on was really hot and as soon as i turned the vacuum on it broke and it was smoking! What the hell could it be? I'vve spent like 20 bucks on belts and if i buy anymore it would be the price of the vaccum, any ideas of what it could be?

My granite supplier/installer told me my kitchen countertop needs two pieces of slab. I wonder why I want a connection gap in between. Is he telling the truth or he just try to scam me with non-standard price on standard slabs? What are the standard sizes of the granite slab?

I am a weekend do-it-yourselfer looking to buy an air compressor to aid in a project basement finishing of a 12’ x 12’ room. One tool I would like to use is a framing nailer with an air compressor to frame the partition walls. I really don’t want to spend a lot of money on a compressor. I have spoken to a tool manufacturer on their framing nailer and they keep saying they recommend an air compressor with 6 CFM @ 90 PSI. Doesn’t CFM mean the recovery rate of the compressor? If I have 90 PSI coming through the regulator then it should work fine right?

If I have to waiting a few minutes between shooting a half a dozen nails, its no big deal.
Would I be better with a 150 max PSI compressor or one that is 125 max PSI?

Compressor?
Porter Cable 150 max PSI, 6 gallon – 2.6 SCFM @ 90 PSI ($180 US, includes brad nailer)
or
Campbell Hausfeld 1.3 H.P. 125 max PSI, 15 gallon – 3.7 SCFM @ 90 PSI ($180 US)

Framing nailer?
Grizzly 21 degree round-head model #H7665 ($100 US)

Thanks!!!
