I have an unfinished bsmt. I want to finish it but don't know if I should do do drywall for my walls and what to look for before starting. I know that when it rains that the walls be wet and I'm assuming that's normal but there's a big stain on the one wall and I'm not sure if it's mold. So before finishing my bsmt what should I do first? And do you think that my dad and I will be able to do it ourselves? I also wanted dropped ceilings. Any advise???? Thanks Nina J

We are buying a new (to us) house and want to start out on the right foot. What should we bring into the house as the "first item in" to ensure good fortune and harmony? DH says bread and salt; what other ritual items are popular and why?

My son threw a rock at our front door and it made a hole through the exterior metal. (The hole doesn't go through the door, just to the inside material.) I need to fill the hole and then paint the door. What is the best material to fill/patch the hole with and then how should I treat the door and paint it?

I have lived in my apartment in Riverside California for almost two years now and have never had a problem with noise. My complex was recently sold and all of a sudden the gardners are on my porch with leaf blowers at 7 & 8 am at least once a week! They have also started resurfacing the streets, redoing the swimming pools and putting new roofs on the carports...the noise is increadable! Aside from moving (which I may do since on top of all of this they have hiked my rent over $100), are there any laws prohibiting the use to leaf blowers (and the like) before a specific time in the morning and/or after a specific time at night? Please help?!!

my next door neighbor has about 12 or 13 cats (they used to have 28). they use my yard for a toilet. i can't stand the smell of pee and poop everywhere, in the garden, lawn, rocks around my pool, etc. then of course the males spray everything including my front door! we complained, and they got rid of some, but their females keep having kittens and they keep them...HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I looking for the awning like entrace, that has a door. You see this in restaurants and bars/clubs. It is a tarp like material and some of them have plastic windows on the sides. Its almost like an outdoor hall way, some have heaters in them to keep the guests warm while waiting in line.

I have an 4 year old home that is 1280 sq ft, my furance is a Duncan brand. Since buying the home the heat has been terrible especially when it's really cold out. I had a professional come in and he said that my furnace was too small to heat my whole house. I had c/a installed in June and the air barely reaches to the second floor. We still have to put fans on. ( That's how I found out that my furnace was too small to heat and cool the house. ) I'm not sure what else to do. I was told that I would have to pay 2500 for a bigger furnace. Any suggestion on what to do?

I am considering replacing my HVAC system. It's all electric heat pump system. I have no idea what a reasonable estimate should be but I received two so far one for $6,000 and one for $9,000. Common sense tells me that $9,000 is over the top, but what about the $6,000 price? Is that average? I am going to obtain about 3 more estimates and need to know what a "reasonable" estimate should be. I am going to be getting one that has at least 15 SEER so I can get the federal tax credit. My home is about 1,265 sq. feet and the unit I have (Trane) is 22 years old. It works fine, but I just want to upgrade. I would appreciate knowledgeable responses. Oh, I want to buy another Trane, but recommendations on other GREAT brands would be helpful also.

Thanks.
