Most modern Christmas lights work in a manner that allows the good bulbs to work, even if one or more are out (I think this is called parallel wiring, but it's been a while since school!).
If your whole strand is not working, chances are you have a blown fuse. Most modern strands come with an extra, and this can be replaced by opening up the fuse compartment located in the plug housing (dont' unscrew it...if it's not obvious, it's probably not there).
Other than that, I have found that it's not worth the trouble to swap out each and every bulb, until you find the bad one. They're not that expensive.

Are you going to preserve it or am I? Cock the shot gun.... problem solved. Now the different subject matters that arrive interior the destiny will be solved with out any complications... hell they could bypass (Win Win)

At the beggining of the cord, where you plug it in at. There should be a slider. You slid it back and take out the little clear glass things. Put one in the light and look threw if theres no liquid then there done. Or if its Blackish Brown. If theres liquid there fine, it may be one of the lights connected to it is done. or missing.

different bulbs have different wires. i believe there is a tool you can buy that will tell you if the bulb is burned out. i can't remeber exactly what it is called but i'm sure you can find it anywhere they sell lights.

most of the bulbs are tinted so it's hard to tell.... you can just take one light out at a time and try a new one.....but, they're pretty cheap to buy.
