I am considering replacing my HVAC system. It's all electric heat pump system. I have no idea what a reasonable estimate should be but I received two so far one for $6,000 and one for $9,000. Common sense tells me that $9,000 is over the top, but what about the $6,000 price? Is that average? I am going to obtain about 3 more estimates and need to know what a "reasonable" estimate should be. I am going to be getting one that has at least 15 SEER so I can get the federal tax credit. My home is about 1,265 sq. feet and the unit I have (Trane) is 22 years old. It works fine, but I just want to upgrade. I would appreciate knowledgeable responses. Oh, I want to buy another Trane, but recommendations on other GREAT brands would be helpful also.

Thanks.

I am in California. It's funny but someone who sells the Trane product told me that American Standard is the worst, yet I saw somewhere that American Standard makes Trane. That does not compute.

$6000 is a good price for a SEER 15 unit heat pump and they are also replacing the indoor unit

If you check out Consumer Reports, you will find out the top of the line unit is American Standard, with Trane further down....but as long as you have your new system maintenance regularly, you shouldn't have very many problems in another 22 years or more. By all means, go with the higher SEER rating, not only will you get federal tax credit, your power bill will be reduced significantly. Enjoy your new system!!!

That seems high. Since your home is almost 1300 square feet, I'll assume your unit is a 2.5 or 3 ton. The average price in FL is $1000 per ton for a medium priced unit. Trane is much more expensive unit so would add another $1000 dollars to it. I'd say $4000.

Other great units much cheaper Ruud or Goodman. Great units with a great price.

Hope this helps....

The 15 seer is very effecient. but you need to know what size your unit is too. 1265 sq. ft. I would think a 3 ton unit would be about what you need. Are you in the sourthern states?
Your seer rating and tonage will help you determine the price.
I doon't know your location, but $6,000 seems a little steep to me for a heat pump system. I would definately shop around.
