Mold has begun to grow on your items. This is a result of higher than normal (usually above 50%) humidity in your house. Mold needs two things to grow, an adequate food source (drywall, wood, fabrics) and moisture. There is no way to completely eliminate mold spores from your home. Every time you open a window or door, spores will enter. The only way to prevent the spores from reproducing and forming colonies are to eliminate the excess moisture since it would be nearly impossible to eliminate your items in the house.

Caution should be taken when dealing with mold issues. Dry spores are easily disturbed and become airborne more readily than spores that are actively growing. This can cause serious adverse health effects. Visit www.horizon-inspections.com, environmental page for more info regarding mold. It is caused by damp which is caused by insufficient ventilation. It occurs a great deal especially when the winter arrives as we tend to shut windows more and have less air about the place.I would bet that your wardrobe is on or attached to an outside wall. The wall is cold and the moisture you release overnight in the bedroom when you are breathing, condenses on the cold surface, like steam on a bathroom mirror which causes bacteria to form into this mould. A worse case is that you have a leaking gutter on the outside of that wall and some damp is getting through and causing the mould. When you have found the cause from the forgoing clean the wardrobe and walls with neat bleach(use goggles and rubber gloves) and leave the bleach to dry out naturally and paint over with emulsion. If it comes back clean again with neat bleach and then paint over the effected area with a gloss paint.
You may need to do this a few more times to kill off all the spores in the plaster.
Best of luck and have a good Christmas.

its a mixture of central heating and the weather!

does the area of wall being your wardrobe have any signs of damp/mould? if so they need to be checked out asap.

It could also have been something on your shoes/clothes that had not been washed properly or picked up from somewhere, i.e. food

Have you had your central heating on a lot? Sometimes gets caused by having the place too hot without ventilation. Humidity, by the sounds of it, but I don't know about the white stuff?!

You have too much moisture in the air and this is very dangerous. MOLD can get into your lungs, and cause you very serious damage. Mentaly and physicaly. I know my spelling is bad, but I know what I'm talking about here. My daughter is very ill today because of this very reason. Please do something about this, or you will pay the price. Check it out! :) Arum
