you need a mirror on a stick, slide it under then rotate the stick to give you a better view of the room inside.
alternatively if you have the equipment or the money then a small camera could be used (007 style).

Depends on what kind of door, lock and which way its facing
Easies is of course the mirror( or video camera)
If you want a better look your gonna need to open the door then there are some options depending on you door.
1 If the lock was assembled with the screws on the outside(some bathrooms) you can just disassemble the lock
2 If it has a long handle ( as opposed to a round one) you can bend a hanger to hook around the handle and pull it down(most of the time this unlocks it)
3 Knife in the space between the door and the molding. Try to pull the locking part back if its a regular door handle. if its a deadbolt try to shimmy the deadbolt back a little bit at a time.
4 If the door opens outwards you can knock the pins out of the door hinges.
If none of these work call a locksmith, it shouldn't be more the $50
And if none of these work either knock down the door or get over it

Interior door / take a knife with a sharp point, shove it into the latch at an angle towards the jamb, then pry towards the door, pull the door towards you hard, that will stop the latch from sliding back into the jamb, repeat the process 2 more times, and presto the door will open, the just use your eyes to look around. Pray that your brother isn't killing the neighbors and drying the body parts out in there, it could make for an uncomfortable Christmas!

I do like the creative ways everyone else has supplied. However, if you have looked and can see any amount of floor space, and you do have access from the basement or crawl space; take a reciprocating saw and cut the floor boards between the floor joists big enough so you can gain access. When done, take a cordless screwdriver and some other boards to screw them to the bottom and surrounding boards to support. Have fun :) I also agree with the idea that it is locked for a reason. I wouldn't do it.

If it has a hole large enough you could use a hanger with the curved part bent so that it is straight and then turn it right but that is only if it has a hole on the outside of the door. That is how I get in my brothers room.

This request for ways to spy on your kin is really disturbing. Have you thought out the consequences of being caught? Would you become homeless, would you break his items and then lie about not being to blame? Obviously what is in the room is none of your business and you need to accept that. really.

First answer is good. They sell a telescoping, adjustable mirror at Auto Parts stores that may work.
