Not cleaning out the lint trap. I had a fire in my dryer, too. You would not believe how much lint there was in my lint trap and also around the drum of my dryer. Now, I have someone clean my dryer every month. I make sure they take my dryer apart and clean all around the drum. You must also make sure to clean out the lint trap after every single load of clothes. Even if it looks like there is no lint in it, believe me, one too many loads of clothes and you've got another fire!

Over heating that can be caused by built up lint or even wiring problems. The best thing to do is to not leave the dryer on when no one is home and keep the lint cleaned out. Also, be careful of the heat setting when drying things like throw rugs & such with rubber backing...lower the heat setting and dry them slowly. These are some good precautions to take to stay safe.
