We just moved into our new house.

The gas furnace is under five years old and heats up the house quite well.

THe problem is it seems to be running constantly. The furnace and fan will come on for a while and then shut off. Then two minutes later it comes on again.

The house retains heat and is fairly winterized but the furnace seems to be always running. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks so much for your time.

I have a hotpoint Washer Dryer wd61. This weekend when it was on a wash cycle it stopped draining, so the water is staying in the drum etc. even though it's starting to spin. I've tried it a few times and the pump isn't starting like it normall does. Now, I've took the back off and found the pump which look easy to replace. I'm covered under parts only warranty with Hotpoint who charge a total of £90 to come and repair it. I can buy the pump for £24 from hotpoint direct. My question is - is this as easy as it looks/seems? If the water isn't draining, will it defo be the pump? All opinions welcome! (Just so you know, I've changed brushes before on washer so fairly confident to have a go).

I don't want to hire someone to do this, i have a chain saw to cut it down with, it's the root system i'm concerned with, whats the best way to be rid of it besides digging it up, i know that option. I was told after cutting it down , drill holes down into the trunk and fill with kerosene and let sit for 1 year filling the holes with kerosene periodically and then burn the root system out , will this work?

Hi all

I'm doing up a flat at the moment, and am right at the start of the project.

I need to replace the kitchen (inc decoration), replace bathroom (inc. decoration), decorate and carpet throughout and replaster the lounge ceiling. Also, I will need to put in a few extra sockets in the kitchen, and am planning to stick socket converters all over the house to double all the existing single sockets. Maybe move a light fitting or two as well.

My question is this - what is the best order to do things in? Should I start with the bathroom, the decoration, the kitchen, the electrics?
Please could you give me reasons why as well as just a suggested order.

I do not need to worry about living conditions in the house whilst doing it up, just in case that makes any difference.

Would really appreciate any advice. Let me know

Many thanks
Matt

I have one standing lamp in a very small studio apt. I have enough room for one standing lamp. It has takes 5 bulbs at a max of 40 watts each. It has stainless steel unremovable lamp shades that just don't give off enough light. Would it be a fire hazard to put 60 watt bulbs in it?

I can't rewire the to put up a light because I rent. And I can't drill into the ceiling either because it's made of reinforced concrete. So, track lights are out.

My husband, who knows alot about fixing a house is somehow having trouble grouting the tub. For some odd reason, the caulk / grout is not adhering between the tub and plastic (tile) walls. The tub is not plastic. I don't think he has tried mixing his own grout yet, but he has tried 2 types of caulk and 1 type of premixed grout. Not sure if the premixed grout will work, it's only been two days since he's put it on, but if it doesn't, what else could he try.

Our vent will work on our heater and it will blow close to warm air. The air conditioner worked on auto but when we tried to turn the heat on auto, it would heat up and smell like the heater was coming on but all you can hear is ticking and nothing coming out of the vents, so we're freezing because I don't want to leave the vent on ALL night, for 1 it runs up the electric bill and 2, it will get too hot. We don't have the money to have someone come out so I'm trying to figure something out before we have to resort to that. I don't want my house to burn down so I'm not going to try anything. Just seeing if anyone has experienced this or not.

The longest the blower will run is approx 2mins. The gas stays blowing for a while at first with the blower kicks on and off. Then the gas shuts off and the blower will run for a while then the gas will kick in. This is all very intermittent and has no real pattern. I have replaced the stat and the thermocouple. But not sure where to go from here. HELP????

I am trying to buy my husband an inexpensive table saw for christmas but don't really know anything about power tools. He would be using it for small projects around the house.

Thank you

We have just bought a new house and before we move in, are going to completely remodel it. My husband is in construction and can check progress every night. We need someone to coordinate subcontractors and supervise...I work from home and know a little about construction....is it overly complicated to organize, make phone calls and do it myself?
