My husband, who knows alot about fixing a house is somehow having trouble grouting the tub. For some odd reason, the caulk / grout is not adhering between the tub and plastic (tile) walls. The tub is not plastic. I don't think he has tried mixing his own grout yet, but he has tried 2 types of caulk and 1 type of premixed grout. Not sure if the premixed grout will work, it's only been two days since he's put it on, but if it doesn't, what else could he try.

OK, where Mr. Fixitman is going wrong is he is using grout. Grout is for tile work not sealing a tub to a plastic surround. The best product out there is by Dap, call "tub and tile", try that.
Also stay away from the silicone type they will only peal off after about 6 months.

Perhaps the walls of the surround need to be cleaned better? Most caulking should adhere without problems if applied correctly. Here are a few tips that I learned over the years;
Make sure surface is clean and free from soap scum.
Cut an angled tip on the caulk tube, this helps get the caulking in the corners better.
Once you have the caulking down on surface, wet your finger and run it over the caulk to smooth and press into the groove. Leaving a nice row of caulking tight against the wall edges.
Clean away any caulk residue or smears while still wet.
Allow caulking 24 hours to cure, so do NOT get it wet, or it will lift off.
GOod luck!

Grout or Caulk? That is the question. You need to use caulk around the tub...be sure to get a bathroom caulk. It is obviously made for high moisture areas. Good luck.

do not use grout if it is on plastic tiles. Use a silicon based caulk. it will adhere to both your tub and to plastic tile. Grout won't hold or at least stay on plastic very well.

There was moisture when he applied it. It has to be completely dry.
