I live in a small apartment that has a dual-unit AC/heater. The temperature outside has been fluctuating up and down lately, with highs ranging from low 50s to mid 70s and lows starting to dip towards and below freezing on some nights. The buildings in the apartment complex are too close together to provide good ventilation if the windows are open. So my question is...

Is there a difference in having the heater on and turned down to a lower temperature (around 65F) or the AC on and turned up to a higher temperature (75F)? Will one take up less energy than the other until it's cold enough to turn on the heat for good? I welcome any advice from people with this type of unit -- thanks in advance!

I hear that solid Hickory hardwood floors are really strong and durable. But I also hear that they are "move" a lot (expand and shrink). Is the movement really that big of a deal, or is that stuff exaggerated?

Hickory hardwood floors have been around for hundreds of year, so I figure they must be excellent floors. And I really like the look of them.

I thought since Christmas ornaments would be considered in the homecatagory. I would ask here. Does anyone know where I can purchase official "cinnamon Bear ornaments? I am talking about ornaments based on the radio show. Years ago my local station WBBM advertised a local shop, however the station no longer has an old time radio show and I can't remember rthe name of the shop. The show and commercial ran in the late 1980's and I am not sure if the shop is even still in business . Any help would be appreciated

Anyone know the true dimensions of a queen size quilt? Not those full/queen ones they are never quite big enough to cover the bed. I want one that has at least 12-16 inches of overhang on all sides. King size is toooo big though!

I'm a college student and I just need it for christmas break. I can't go home for the winter break and I just need someplace to stay for until school starts back.
I can't go home cuz my mom is a drug dealer and my aunt supports her, my home isnt a positive enviroment. Other family members always express how much of an inconvience it'll be to have people stay over so I dont wanna ask them.
I just need some ideas on where to look for temporary housing for 1 or 2 month?

We are creating a haunted maze for a fundraising event. We want it to be really scary for the kids (up to 14 years old) but not too gory so the parents won't freak out. We don't want to spend thousands of dollars on crazy animatronix and stuff. Know of a website with discount props and decorations or have some do-it-ourself iseas? please help! (helpful ideas only please)

I'm putting in laminate wood flooring throughout my house. I have to remove the carpet, but do I need to remove the vinyl tile underneath? I've heard that asbestos can be released when removing old vinyl tile. Any advice would be appreciated.

I just moved into a studio apt. and I am NOT used to having such a small space to deal with. I got rid of alot of stuff and I have been very creative about ways to make extra space (because I HATE cluter!) But the problem now is my apartment looks too boring! My head board, computer desk and tv stand are all antique black, and my bedspread is leapord print (black and tan)....any ideas for other colors that will go well with this? I still need to buy a rug and curtains and maybe a chair or two....Plus I dont have anything on my walls yet.... I was thinking maybe red would be a good color to go with the leapord print, but I'm not sure....ANY Advice, Ideas or Color schemes are welcome! Thanx!

Has anyone recently purchased a new Whirlpool or Maytag gas dryer? Which do you prefer/what do you like about the one you chose?
Ones I have seen have more bells/whistles than I think I will ever use! Recommendations, please? Thanks!
But I did read in consumer reports a dryer sensor is an important feature.

I can cut part of a hole in the rail but it will leave a thin strip at the top for attaching the vanity; there isn't enough width to drill a hole big enough for the turn offs.

I bought it on sale, guess why, and can't return it. It never occurred to me that the rail wouldn't be at a regulation height.

I can't move the rail because it supports the drawers too.

I could cleat it to the wall but it would push the vanity out of plumb from the wall. There may be room for a cleat on the inside of the wall (via a plumber's access) but it would have to go between the hot and cold pipes and the wall?

I could raise the vanity off the floor to clear the turn offs at the back but it would leave a big space underneath and look weird. And, no, I don't like the idea of putting it on glass blocks either--a creative idea but it looks like you've made a mistake. Any ideas out there?

Also, I want to put a pre-cut granite top on it, if it's that cheaply made would it support such weight
