We are creating a haunted maze for a fundraising event. We want it to be really scary for the kids (up to 14 years old) but not too gory so the parents won't freak out. We don't want to spend thousands of dollars on crazy animatronix and stuff. Know of a website with discount props and decorations or have some do-it-ourself iseas? please help! (helpful ideas only please)

So far ideas are too cheesy. pretend I didn't saY 14, pretend i actually want to scare adults. these kids are tuff, and we already have a "not-too-spooky" section set up. i need ideas for the "really scary" section. dry-ice and grapes are duh-ideas. come on, people, get creative! (ps- it's indoors)

You want to be careful about scaring kids who are really young and impressionable, so I wouldn't allow children under 12 in the maze without their parents.
The maze should be really dark with creepy things along the way, such as threads hanging from the ceiling to resemble cobwebs. Then have someone extend a hand covered with a wet rubber glove. You can use cold, boiled spaghetti for brains and peeled grapes for eyeballs -- they really feel like the real thing when the imagination is running wild in a dark and scary atmosphere. Spooky sounds like groaning and diabolical laughter, and maybe some somber music add to the ambience. And finally, a luminous cardboard skeleton or someone dressed like a witch can pop out unexpectedly for additional shock appeal. Use your imagination, and I'm sure you can come up with some good ideas of your own that are spooky but not gory.

One thing i saw in a haunted house once that was pretty cool & fairly inexpensive is they had the room black with glow in the dark spots painted on the walls. Then they had 2-3 people in the room wearing all black outfits with spots of the same size painted on them. they moved very slowly and you didn't realise they were there until they were standing right next to you. very creepy effect!
dont know if something like that's too scary for the age group but i liked it when i saw it because it was creative and not gorey

edit:
another freaky thing they had was a spot where the floor was clear and had somebody down there in a scary costume that when you walked over would turn on a light and bang on the floor and yell and stuff.

Take green grapes and skin them. Then take a black Sharpie and draw a pupil on them. Put them in soft jello and let the kids pick them out of the container. The kids will be freaked out by your scary eyeballs!!!

mix cooking oil, green and red food coloring. you can have fake blood by mixing those.
you can also use dry ice for a nice smoke effect. though, i don't know how much it costs
