Give it a feeding every month of a liquid fertilizer mixed in with it's regular water, of anything made from fish. My Mom gave me some of this (it's a really intense green, but I don't remember the name) and it turned my ivy into King Kong.

The apartment I lived in at the time had an Eastern exposure. I had a shelf unit up in the dining nook (on an east-west wall, facing north) and the ivy was on that unit. When I first got it, it was about 3 feet long and sickly. I started feeding it this fertilizer, and with lots of indirect light on that wall, within 2 years it had grown to have 5 branches, each over 30 feet long. The ivy was wound around the unit (which was 6 ft by 4 ft of shelves) a few times.

When I moved from that apartment into a townhouse that faced SE/NW, and kept the plant in the NW window, it died completely out within 3 months no matter what I did to try to save it.

So, the recipe seems to be:

Fish based liquid fertilizer once a month, in it's usual water.
Lots of INDIRECT sunlight.
Benevolent neglect.

You have to cut the longer strands off, root them in water and replant into the same pot. If you do that every time it gets long you will have a fuller plant in 2-3 months. Fertilize once every two weeks with Miracle Grow. Use directions, don't make it stronger as suggested you can burn the plant. If the days are dark, leave a lamp on close by. Always water with tepid/room temperature water. I leave mine in the watering can so all the chlorine can evaporate and the water is always room temperature.

Just water the plant once a week with 1/2 cup of water....Do not put in direct sunlight....It will burn out the plant, make it turn brown............If your leaves turn yellow, it needs water or it could have too much...You will need to put your finger in the soil to test it to see how wet/dry it is............good luck. Use miracle grow fertilizer I/2 tsp in 1/2 cup of water every 3 months.....

I use Jobe's Fertilizer Spikes for all my house plants. They're easy to use and my plants have grown alot plus are a deeper green. They also have spikes for flowering plants too.
