I've always wondered if the person who is in a coma can hear and/or understand what is going on around them but it just feels like they are dreaming. Can you tell me anything about your experience?

It's happened before - much distress after a week of antibiotics. It takes weeks of probiotics to get my gut flora back to normal. Can I take a probiotic now along with the antibiotic or will it interfer? I may have to wait and suffer the consequences, though I'd rather not.

And if so can that doctor say what could cause blood in one's stool all of a sudden? The person was diagnosed with IBS long ago and received special meds for that but starting yesterday she noticed blood and not such a small amout as well as today. I am her friend and part time caregiver and she refuses at this point to go to the er. If anyone can help me with reasons for this I would appreciate it. Thank You.

I have a thyroid problum. About 2 weeks before I found out. I got this ringing in my ears, that never seems to go away! It annoys the crap out of me. So they put me on synthroid, after that, my ears are ringing even louder. and sometimes, the left ear will ring loud and it causes me to not be able to breath, it screws with my hear beat and makes me kinda dizzy. i don't like it at all. I told me Dr. about it, he said it was caffine, so i stoped drinking so much caffine, but its still there!!! Does anyone know what this is? Or does anyone have it??? Please help me... and don't tell me i need to go to the dr. I will once I renew my insurance, which is going to be at least 3 months. Thank you.

I'm going to try and keep this short, but I'm so freaking ticked I don't know how that's going to go. My sister in law is on the transplant list for a kidney. She only has one and she's in dialysis 15 hours a week because it's failing. Anyway, they called her yesterday and told her they had a kidney for her. She got over to the hospital and prepped for surgery when they told her that the woman on the list ahead of her decided to have the transplant surgery (she had already called and told them that she didn't want it). So my sis proceeded to get ready to come home. Then they called her back and got her prepped for surgery AGAIN because the other lady decided AGAIN not to have the surgery. Then, you guessed it, she calls back and wants the surgery, but by this time the kidney had gone bad and no one could have it. Now I am SO FREAKING TICKED, I want to sue the hospital and the stupid BIT** who killed my sisters chance at a kidney. Is there any legal base for a claim like this?

Scientists are also developing techniques to treat and cure genetic diseases through genetic surgery and genetic therapy. They can already identify genetic sequences that are defective, and soon scientists will be able to replace these defects with properly functioning genes. I copied and pasted that from a website. I read that OCD is showing more and more signs of being biological and therefore genetic in nature, another website said all disease or defective behavior has some genetic element of change. From what I copied and pasted it sounds like they can identify these defective sequences and replace them with properly functioning genes, does this mean virtually a cure for all disease or deviant behavior? I suffer from OCD, so this information is very exciting to me, even if its not possible for a very long time, its still something to hope for.

I have a cold and I'm coughing quite often; how do I get rid of this symptom or at least mask it, ASAP? I know I can drink water to keep the cough down, but I don't want to do that every five minutes.

I am healthy female, I have had a sore throat for 6 weeks. It's not a typical sore throat that you need a cough drop. This feels like a lump in my throat, hard to swollow and it feels tight and swollen. This is here all the time, day and night -never eases up. The dr said it was strep at first, antibiotics didn't help, then next dr said it was upper respitory infection gave me a steriod and antibiotic, no relief. I went to ENT who scoped me through the nose down the throat, nothing. Had a barium swallow, nothing. He said I need to see a stomach dr. it might be acid reflux without heartburn. He gave me a prescription for Omeprazole. I haven't taken it because I don't have any stomach problems or acid backing up into my throat. Please help.

The doctor, (who diagnosed me yesterday), thinks the skin infection on my toes is Herpes simplex. I have no idea why/how. I have never had "intimate" contact with ANYONE. Not even kissing. No one has come into contact with my foot either. I'm now on anti-herpes meds and I'm worried it isn't herpes. It was a diagnosis based on visual examination and not a culture collection/testing.

Any ideas?

The pain lasts under a minute but it is severe & sometimes the severity is missed by lesser pain. I had this coming when I was very young-as old as 5 years. It does not come always; say once in couple of months. I had this on & off till 27, that's when I got married. I never had it till 50. I am now 54 and in the last 4 years I have had 5 to 6 experiences. The pain just goes off in about 30 secs. X rays have revealed nothing. When the pain stats, I just clutch my head & can do nothing till the pain completly subsides; but enough to shake me up. One young doc. had told me that this could be due to under weight. I was then 25 years and weighed 45 Kgs, I am 5 ft. 6 inc. Very strangely I put on weight, up to 67 Kgs, after marriage ie.from 27 years to 50 years I don't remember to have got a single attack! I am a veg. teetotaller . I have servical spondilitis prob from 44th year but exercise has kept me fine. I now weigh 60 Kgs, very fit with routine jogging & long walks. Pl Help.

We have both been ill since wednesday (today is saturday) and show no signs of getting better anytime soon. We have aching arms and legs, really bad, and fevers/chills, and also a very bad cough, and excessive lethargy. My friend says it's the flu, but i thought the flu was just a cough and cold? Anyway, i have been giving him calprofen, and a linctus for the cough, and i have been taking some beechams cold and flu remedy, but still uncomfortable with the aching limbs, and my son still says that his tummy hurts.
My question is, should we go to the doctors? I dont wanna bother him if i dont need to, but would like to know how long this is going to go on for, and if there is anything else i can do for either of us?

The left side of my face is really tight. I talked to my mother in law and I am not showing any stroke symptoms. It is like my left cheek right under my eye and running down to where my mouth and nose is..it is really tight like a pressure and the same side of my face my nostril is stopped up. Does sinus pressure do this to you? Make your face feel almost numb(it is really weird because I can feel my face, it just feels tight). My mom thought it might be Bell's Palsy because her friend gets it when she is stressed(which I am). Any suggestions will help. I am going to call my doctor Monday but in the meantime I wanted some thoughts. Thanks!

Aroung midday someone (not me!) begins to feel somewhat disorientated. This feeling gets stronger as the day goes on and is unaffected by food or lack thereof. As well as the unnerving altered state of mind that starts with no apparent cause, the tips of the fingers become numb. There is a lack of sensation in the fingertips, and an overall reduction in the amount of feeling in the hands in general. This includes an inability to distinguish warm from cold, wet from dry, etc. This has been continuing daily for about a week. Most of the symptoms subside and are of little effect by the later evening. Any ideas are welcome and wanted, thanks!
