My dr. has suggested this for me. It has a lot of serious side effects though.
Even though I'm doing well, she said that this could help.

I have been on enbrel for about 2 years now.. no major side effects... nothing like the lymphoma or pneumonia stuff... just sometimes an itching at the injection site or bruising from hitting a tiny blood vessel... now i use the sure click injecting pen and not gotten any of those... I have mod to severe Rheumatoid arthritis and have tried many other drugs...
Without the enbrel i would not be able to walk today...
Enbrel works by blocking the Tumor Neucrosis factors that cause flares in the body... it works best with Methotrexate on board as well, but can be used alone.. other injections work on the TNF or other proteins... Humira is closest to enbrel and i know several people who have changed from one to another with better results... The other 2 i know of are Orencia (newest out there i think) and remicade which is an IV infusion every 6-10 weeks...

I don't take it ,but my cousin does. She has severe rheumatoid. She got off of Embrel and tried something else. She has had a lot of side effects from both. She has been hospitalized several
times from pneumonia and other side effect problems.
If you are doing well, then I wouldn't think it would be wise to get on it until you have too.
Don't we all hope for medications that don't make us sicker?

I give it to my spouse. The biggest side effect he's felt is tenderness at the injection site. This doesn't last more than 24 hours. Discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor before starting any medication.
He has seen an improvement with his range of motion and does seem to have less arthritis pain.
