We have both been ill since wednesday (today is saturday) and show no signs of getting better anytime soon. We have aching arms and legs, really bad, and fevers/chills, and also a very bad cough, and excessive lethargy. My friend says it's the flu, but i thought the flu was just a cough and cold? Anyway, i have been giving him calprofen, and a linctus for the cough, and i have been taking some beechams cold and flu remedy, but still uncomfortable with the aching limbs, and my son still says that his tummy hurts.
My question is, should we go to the doctors? I dont wanna bother him if i dont need to, but would like to know how long this is going to go on for, and if there is anything else i can do for either of us?

flu is actually more like a stomach virus then a cold, It can cause vomiting and loose stools. When people say they have 'flu' nine times out of ten it is usually just a bad head cold. If you are feeling sick and very weak and achy it probably is flu. Colds kind of go hand in hand with flu, it's perfectly possible to get a cold and it be just a cold but unlikely you would get flu and not a cold with it, flu usually hangs around a bit longer then a cold does too. I would pop a long to the doctors because of your son's age, he will probably advise lots of fluids and diralite to replace any loss of fluids, small snacks should keep you both going if heavy meals are too much for you right now.
I hope you both feel better soon, rug up and plenty of vitamin C.

If this is the flu, you may have waited too long to take advantage of Tamiflu which lessens the severity of the symtoms. But you should go see the doctor...you are not bothering him...that's his job. When you go to the grocery store, do you think you are bothering the clerk to check you out?...No of course not...that's their job. The doctor is there for you and wants to help you feel better. Sounds like flu to me, but I'm not examining you...go find out...for sure!

I'd be inclined to take your son to the doctor because of his age. It does sound like flu, though, but best to get him checked out.
