The pain lasts under a minute but it is severe & sometimes the severity is missed by lesser pain. I had this coming when I was very young-as old as 5 years. It does not come always; say once in couple of months. I had this on & off till 27, that's when I got married. I never had it till 50. I am now 54 and in the last 4 years I have had 5 to 6 experiences. The pain just goes off in about 30 secs. X rays have revealed nothing. When the pain stats, I just clutch my head & can do nothing till the pain completly subsides; but enough to shake me up. One young doc. had told me that this could be due to under weight. I was then 25 years and weighed 45 Kgs, I am 5 ft. 6 inc. Very strangely I put on weight, up to 67 Kgs, after marriage ie.from 27 years to 50 years I don't remember to have got a single attack! I am a veg. teetotaller . I have servical spondilitis prob from 44th year but exercise has kept me fine. I now weigh 60 Kgs, very fit with routine jogging & long walks. Pl Help.

I get similar things. My theory is that it's a muscle spasm, which can be caused by any number of things. Very severe, but usually doesn't last long. Maybe a doctor will answer, but I thought you should know you are not alone.

I'm going to be 60 soon, and I think it has gradually happened more often over the years, but started about the time I was in college. It may have been related to my migraine headaches, but I never proved it.

My advice: see a doctor. While nurses can be competent and assist with minor to moderate maladies, a medical doctor is obviously needed in this case.
