Aroung midday someone (not me!) begins to feel somewhat disorientated. This feeling gets stronger as the day goes on and is unaffected by food or lack thereof. As well as the unnerving altered state of mind that starts with no apparent cause, the tips of the fingers become numb. There is a lack of sensation in the fingertips, and an overall reduction in the amount of feeling in the hands in general. This includes an inability to distinguish warm from cold, wet from dry, etc. This has been continuing daily for about a week. Most of the symptoms subside and are of little effect by the later evening. Any ideas are welcome and wanted, thanks!

Okay, obviously this person is seeing a doctor, but test results aren't same day, or even same week sometimes. I, or he, do not need to be told a doctor is required, but rather, were looking for any ideas about this curiosity to keep our minds busy while we wait for the official verdict.

From personal experience, sometimes when I have a pinched nerve in my neck, I experience some of the same symptoms. I don't usually feel any pain in my neck, but a while after I am awake and upright, I start feeling a little disturbance in my vision, then it progresses to disorientation and sometimes dizzieness. A couple of times, I've had numbness in my arm, hand. A couple visits to my chiropractor and I'm good as new. You might go to a chiropractor and have it checked out. Hope this helps!

They should get their thyroid and sugar tested. Thyroid problems were the first thing that popped in my head. Along with diabetes but as i kept reading i tend to think maybe that was not it. Do any of these problems run in their family. Family history along with age would have been a good clue as well as the gender. Lastly, check BP. Although this may not be a answer for all of these symptoms, high BP can make a person dizzy which may explain the "disorientation"....so in summary, bloodwork!

This could be a very serious problem and a Physician needs to
evaluate this person at once. If this person is taking medication, it could be the medication is either too much, or not enough, as it could be wearing off after time & the symptoms have gone away.
I would get the person to a Doctor at once.

A friend of mine had a similar problem and was diagnosed with cholesterol problems in the blood, heart problems or some stuff like that, either way quite serious so... in other words, why are you still here?! GO SEE a bloody DOCTOR!

My immediate thought was that if its unrelated to food then it could possibly be environmental. Something which is causing neuro toxicity.
Whatever the cause it definitely needs looking at by a doctor;

It is better for this person to seek medical attention. No one on Yahoo answers can diagnose. See a doctor.
