My doctor suspects I have DVT and I'll be seeing a specialist in a few days. Meantime I wonder if anyone can tell me what are the usual treatment options, and also are there any alternative medicine regimes I could follow? Thanks.

This happens reliably after even a moderate amount of alcohol, and the type of drink doesn't matter either. I read another question that suggested this could be an allergy, and to try claritin w/ aspirin, suggested by Zorba Pastor on www.wpr.org - does anyone know about this or any other possible remedy? Taking sleeping pills (as I'm doing currently w/ my doc's recommendation) isn't a good solution!

For as long as I can remember, I have always had a fear of going to the doctor. My throat contracts and It gets hard to breathe and I just feel like I am going to cry everytime I have to go, and I don't go unless I absoultley have to. But the problem is now I have to because I have been having bad asthma attacks and I have lost alot of weight and that is not good. I can't tell my mom, we don't get along and just thinking of the doctor makes me freak out and give me an asthma attack. If I told my friends they would make fun of me what should I do? Is there any way to make it better. I live in a small town so there is only one clinic I can go to

My father is 64 years old and very intelligent. Lately he's been getting forgetful about some things - that he left water to boil, to pay his rent on time. Most of the incidents seem to be related to time distortion: He thinks he talked with me a few weeks ago when it was just this morning, that an hour has passed when it has been ten hours.

Others are things like not remembering the names of stores he's visited, minor mix-ups with following a map, not remembering that he used to make a certain dish for us when we were kids. He always remembers people and isn't confused about what day it is and he's not paranoid or anything, but his more frequent memory loss is bothering him. The things I've mentioned are very out of character for him.

Do we need to worry, or is this normal aging? I should mention that his mother had similar behaviors, but no diagnoses of Alzheimer's. He does seem worse than my 75 year-old friends, though.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

I've started showering in the morning, instead of at night for the past week and a half now. When I get to class my nose usually runs. This lady in my class has been sick for the passed three weeks with something and she comes to class periodically and when she does she's usually touching peoples stuff. My classroom has no windows just an open door. Lately under my chin has been swollen on the right side and my necks been feeling cramped and my head hurts all the time. What could this be caused by?

i have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for a little less than two years and i have been taking levoxyl since to regulate my thyroid. it wasnt a problem for the first year,( i would wake up, take the pill, then wait an hour and then i could eat.)
but last year i started middle school and i had to go to school a lot earlier and i didnt have time to take my meds and also eat (levoxyl users know that you have to wait an hour to eat after taking it)
so then i wouldnt eat breakfast and my eating pattern got all messed up so this year i wake up, get ready, eat then leave for school and then about two hours later i take my medicine at the school clinic.

i used to have a longer break between 2nd and 3rd period so i had time then to take my meds but now my schedule changed and i dont have a break long enuff to take it then and i cant take it later cuz i have lunch right after 3rd so yeah....can i take it later in the day? like when i get home which is about 2:30 is morning better?

I saw a doctor who could find nothing wrong. He sent me to a neurologist who performed some tests. Again no results. I was scanned for blood clots that might be preventing good circulation and once more no answers. My family witnessed these episodes. You could feel the cold coming off of me. Lasted about 5 minutes each time. No fever. No fatigue. This went on all summer. Only happened at home, luckily, usually in the evening while I was winding down from the days usual activities. I have had only a couple of episodes since last year but I am afraid that these attacks may strike while driving or something. The cold chills that accompanied these attacks would at times be so severe that I would shake uncontrollably. I would run to the bathroom so as to not scare my children. I have seen psychiatrists who have ruled out anxiety attacks. I considered possible water intoxication because I was drinking a lot of water while on a low sodium diet but my doctor says no. I'm a 34 year old male.

my mom is going today to have an operation for a perianal abscess. they tried to drain it, but couldnt get all the way to it since its about 5 inches in diameter. they also said it could be cured by antibiotics and prescribed some to her. by the time she had gotten home from getting the medicine the dr called back to say they would have to do surgery instead. i am wondering why such a quick change in decision. is there potential for something else there, even if he didnt say so? what can be expected in this operation? anybody with personal experience would be greatly appreciated. i know the background info as i have googled it and read many medical articles. just looking for some more insight and possible reassurance.
thanks so much!

I've been diagnosed with DDD, had 3 disc surgeries at the L-4-L-5 level-am trying to find if there's any connection between the disc problems and an extra vertebrae, and what possible problems an extra vertebrae below L-5 could cause. No one can give me any specifics as of yet. Dealing with continual pain, recurring numbness/weakness in legs, some peripheral neuropathy. Some doctors have been unfamiliar with the issue of an extra vertebrae, others say up to 20% of population may have an extra vertebrae, needless to say, I'm confused!
