For as long as I can remember, I have always had a fear of going to the doctor. My throat contracts and It gets hard to breathe and I just feel like I am going to cry everytime I have to go, and I don't go unless I absoultley have to. But the problem is now I have to because I have been having bad asthma attacks and I have lost alot of weight and that is not good. I can't tell my mom, we don't get along and just thinking of the doctor makes me freak out and give me an asthma attack. If I told my friends they would make fun of me what should I do? Is there any way to make it better. I live in a small town so there is only one clinic I can go to

I think you SHOULD tell your friends. if you don't get along with your mom, tell your friends. They may be able to help you and support you. Please get help though. Your friends might be able to surprise you so your doctor can do something to help. When I didn't eat, I had to go to an anorexia clinic for a whole year to catch up on my weight. Then I had to go back to school, and they almost made me stay back a grade. Then I asked the principal that if I got 100% on all the tests that I missed if I could go to the next grade. It took me A MONTH of studying, but I did it. A bad brain disease is not worth all that trouble. Don't let it take control of your life. Go to a doctor or you may face serious consequences. Your asthma attacks may leave you really ill if you don't go to visit a doctor's office.

You need to find someone to accompany you to the doctor. Surely your friends would NOT make fun of you if they are truly friends and if you explain your fears to one or more of them. Your current problem is the proverbial vicious circle since the concept of visiting the doctor exacerbates your asthmatic condition which obviously requires treatment and, most likely, medication. I have worked in the medical field, and I believe that a visit for treatment of your asthma should not be terribly difficult. The longer you avoid the inevitable, too, the worse your condition may become. Believe me, once you have seen the doctor, you will have peace of mind which is priceless. When you arrive for your appointment, explain your fears and anxieties to the nurse or medical assistant who sees you first; surely that person will be compassionate in trying to alleviate your distress. Good luck!

You have white coat fever which is actually quite common. Get a friend to go with you to the Dr or whatever will help you get over your fear long enough to get examined. Usually this condition resolves the second you actually start talking to the physician.

YOUR FRIENDS ARE PROBABLY ALREADY TALKING ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT LOSS, AND THINKING YOU HAVE A EATING DISORDER, COMING CLEAN ABOUT YOUR MEDICAL ISSUE WILL BRING THOSE CLOSER TO YOU BY SHOWING THEM YOU TRUST THEM AND IN RETURN THEY WILL SUPPORT YOU THROUGH ANYTHING. apparently YOU CANNOT TRUST ANYONE OR YOU WOULD HAVE ALREADY CONFIDED IN SOMEONE OTHER THAN A ANONYMOUS INTERNET SITE. i WILL PRAY FOR YOU!!! Sorry about the caps, my computer program i do my work in needs to be ran with caps and I'm too lazy to erase and retype! Your doctor can help with your medical problems and can refer you to other resources in the community to help with your emotional problems and feelings of insecurity.
