No, sugar is not a depressant. A depressant is a chemical agent that diminshes the function or activity of the body. Sugar (or Sucrose) is used as a source of energy. But, eating a LOT of sugar quickly can lead to rapid spike in your blood sugar. Your body responds by releasing extra insulin into your blood stream. The high insulin makes blood sugar crash back down. That's what causes the 'depressed" feeling, not the suger but the LACK of sugar (Hypoglycemia).

Yes it is a depressant. What happens when you eat it you get a sugar high. But sugar (especially white sugar) causes a quick rise in blood surgar. The high doesn't last long because you blood surgar drops and you become tired and weak. Check out this website I found...no. 75 on the list is depression. There's 146 reasons here why you shouldn't eat this stuff.

Sugar is highly addictive and affects different people in different ways, and for some people it can cause depression.

On what do you base this statement? Sugars are carbohydrates, carbohydrates are coverted to glucose the fuel for our cells and provides the source of energy for our cells. How do you figure a source of energy is a depressant?
