I had to have a root canal about a month ago. I grind my teeth in my sleep, and fractured a tooth (it's my back bottom molar, right side) - I found out because it hurt to chew on that side.

The endodontist performed the root canal, filled the tooth, and my dentist put on a temporary crown. I've been wearing the temporary crown for about 3 weeks. I am still experiencing sharp pain from that tooth when I chew (that's the ONLY time it hurts, though - it's not sensative to hot or cold, doesn't hurt to be touched, it's not swollen or anything...).

Is this normal? Is it ok? I'm hoping this is a result of keeping the temporary crown on for a few weeks... my insurance renews on Jan. 1, so they were waiting to put the crown on to get that covered by my insurance. But could this be a failed root canal?

I've had root canals before (for the same reason), and they all went off without a hitch. They never hurt after the procedure when chewing or otherwise...

Thank you!

About two weeks ago, my jaw started to hurt. For a couple of days, it hurt to chew. It doesn't hurt to chew anymore, but it is really stiff and hurts in the morning when I wake up, but this usually goes away after about 20 minutes or so. What do you think might be going on? No swelling, just stiffness and some pain...

Hi there,

I had my wisdom teeth taken out about 5 days ago, and I have yet to wear my retainer since then. Usually I wear it every night, but since the extraction I was worried the wires may affect the healing process. When can I start wearing my retainer again? And will my not wearing it for this long cause a shift in my teeth??

(I had braces 3-4 years ago).
Thanks.

I got my wisdom teeth removed on the 13th of December and i was doing/getting better until today..the 19th when randomly one of my top teeth removal area began bothering me, most of the stuff i can understand but, several times i have sniffed it hurt the area that was operated on, i was just wondering what that could be caused by. it doesn't hurt a lot so i figured it wasn't anything that i should bother my surgeon's office about so i thought i'd ask here.

My two front teeth are slightly chipped from a softball to the face a while ago. Are veneers the only way to fix this? They look crooked because each tooth is is chipped diagonally, with the chip going from the inside of each tooth to the outer part. kindof like an upside down v. Its not as dramatic as a v, but thats the basic shape. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

I'm going to get a degree in biochem, and I will take the DATs and get into dental school....while I'm in dental school, can I work as a dental hygenist? Also, do some employers offer to pay the costs of dental school if I offer to work for them in exchange?

Where can I find dental floss wands in the UK?

They are described under the 'use section of this wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_floss

But when i search for them in ebay or amazon i get no results. Maybe they are called something else. Googling the answer gives references to oral b flossettes but seem to all be reviews with no where to buy them. A review I read suggested the oral b ones were expensive and that alternatives were cheaper. Where can I find them?

They must exist on ebay or amazon somewhere!

I'm about to have my wisdom teeth removed. As I was signing forms I noticed in big bold letters: DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING 8 HOURS BEFORE SURGERY \ may cause death. I was curious if anyone knows how eating before surgery could cause death.

Will it hurt after the surgery? I'm getting a local anesthetic. They will cut open my gums and fill in wherever I need it. Then they will stitch them up. Will it hurt when the anesthesia wears off? What can I eat and not eat?

I got my braces about 2 months ago and it's just been these couple of weeks when the right side of my mouth (the two molars at the back and a few teeth at the front feel) really sensitive to cold. I can't even eat an orange on the right side of my mouth! Before it was the left side and now it's the right. I use Sensodyne mouthwash thing which was given by the dentist for the braces. What else shall I do?? Is it cos of my braces?

Let me start by saying that my dental hygiene is great...

Anywho, I have noticed today that the gum between my two bottom front teeth is no longer connected and it feels sorta weird (doesn't feel like anything technically, I can move it around with my tongue and that is what is weird).

Has this happen to anyone before? If so was it serious? I am just curious... would hate to go to the dentist for something small.

I had my eye tooth crowned about 3 weeks ago. It's been hurting on and off. I went to dentist Friday and he shaved it down and said it was too high. It was fine Saturday, started hurting a little on Sunday, yesterday it was throbbing and right now its throbbing and hurts up to the roots of the tooth. It hurts even up next to my nose. I've been taking Advil like it's candy. I should tell you that I wear a particle that is connected to that tooth by a metal bracket and I'm waiting on my permanent to finish being made. The pain seems to get worse as the evening wears on.

Any suggestions as to what I can do about this pain?

I had an apicoectomy a little over a week ago, and took antibiotics for a week. I just finished them a couple of days ago. After drinking wine today, I noticed that the bubble in my gum, above my tooth reappeared (which is why I got the apicoectomy in the first place).
Does it take a while for the symptoms to go away, or should I call my endodontist about this? He checked the area after a week (a couple of days ago), and said that I was healing well.
Would appreciate an endodontist or dentist's opinion. Thanks!

I had my wisdom teeth removed 4-5 days ago surgically, and I can feel the thread coming out. I can even see the piece of loose thread. What should I do? My dentist is only open three days a week, and not until saturday. ;( ShouldI be worried, even though it's already been 4 days?
