Will it hurt after the surgery? I'm getting a local anesthetic. They will cut open my gums and fill in wherever I need it. Then they will stitch them up. Will it hurt when the anesthesia wears off? What can I eat and not eat?

It won't hurt too much. Besides cutting the gum there will be alot of scraping and planing of the bone to provide a good surface for the bone material to adhere to.
You will probably have to rinse with Perodex (it stains the teeth)
and be given an antibotic to take for a week.
You will probably have to be careful eating for a few days. It will depend how much work they do at one time. You can always chew on the other side of your mouth.
I had it done twice and no problems. If it's on the upper part of your mouth I assume they will have to do a sinus lift also.
Hopefully it is being performed by a dental surgeon such as a perodontist.
Good Luck
