Here's the deal: My teeth are perfectly straight, except for this one tooth on the bottom, in the middle. You see, this too is more back than rest of the teeth. I thought I'd grown out of it, yet It has been this way for about 10 years. Because it is the only tooth out of place, I see it as a waste to get braces. Is there any other way to straighten this tooth?

Thanks.

My 7 year old dauther will have one tooth extracted because it is obstructing. The dentist said she will use laughing gas. No anestheologist will be present. Is laughing gas considered general anesthesia? How safe is it on a 7 year old? Should I go ahead with it?

I gotta bunch of those silver ones, where about one falls out per year. Now I've noticed that the new fillings are white colored or whatever. Is part of that invention due to silver fillings being bad for people? Or is it all about looks and price, or all of the above.

The body is designed to heal itself if you allow it to do so/help it out a bit (i.e.: a broken bone will try to mend & calcify even if it's not "set" correctly; or, an infected cut in the skin will heal up if you treat the infection and don't irritate the cut; etc.)

How come teeth don't work like this? I have never heard of anyone who suffered from an infected tooth (a cavity, basically) that got better without dental treatment.

My son will soon be 9, and we were told that he needs a palatal expander to help his crossbite. He has only lost 6 teeth so far. The orthodontist said that he would need the expander for 6 months, then would have to wear a retainer. He did not mention braces, but the office manager kept referring to the treatment as "Phase I" and mentioned braces a few times. Phase I will cost $1500 for this 6 month treatment. Do you think this is appropriate at this point?

I just got my retainer on, & my orthodontist specifically said to keep them in 24 hours everyday, EVEN WHEN EATING.

I heard your supposed to take them out when you eat...
So i don't know what to do.

I like to think I have taken pretty good care of my teeth in my 41 years. Growing up I didn't go to a dentist with any regularity, to my embarrasment. I had braces for nearly 4 years getting them removed just before my senior year of high school.
My first filling was when I was 33 and apparently was fairly deep though he was confident of not getting into the nerve canal.
My current dentist has taken X-rays and has attempted a fairly convincing argument for having a RCT done. He has shown me the films and told me about the gray shaded area being the (alleged) abcess.
To date I have had nothing more than a 'sensation' when I bite down on that tooth and have not had ANY form of pain at all.
He claims if the nerve has died there will be no pain because of that fact.
He took more X-rays yesterday and tells me it 'looks to be worse than last year.' I looked at the films and the bottom of the tooth was not even visible! Another X-ray was not much better! Is he "drilling" for money??

I am not sure how to cure.... I am experiencing bad breath. But, its coming from the back of my thoat. I brush twice daily, floss, gargle, whiten, my mouth is clean no doubt about it. But, I think my sinus are causing me to have bad breath because its coming from the back of my throat, and when I blow my noise I can smell it. Is there anything I can do to cure this....

at her orthodontist appt. yesterday, the dentist asked me if she had ever been genetically tested, due to her severe shortage of permanent teeth to replace the baby teeth she has now. she added that such a severe shortage of permanent teeth can be a symtom of several genetic disorders. has anyone heard of any situation like this before? i am out of my element and at a loss, and helpless....and worried for my daughter.

I have an open/under bite and I am expecting to have jaw surgery sometime before the summer is up. Susposedly, they're going to be doing everything from the inside, so I'll have no scaring on the outside. To be completely honest I'm dreading it and completely petrified. I've never had any kind of major surgery before. I have high expectations with my results. Anybody here had a similar procedure done? I don't want you to scare me I just wanna know like, how do you eat and how long does the jaw have to be wired shut and stuff like that. Is there also anyway I can take something to keep me calm before I go into surgery? I have a consultation coming up soon and would also like ideas on questions to ask. Everything I will ask him but would like different opinions.
