The mouth is devided in to four quadrants, upper left, upper right, lower left and of course lower right. Each quadrant is numbered from 1 - 8, with 1 being the front teeth, so UL1, means your front tooth on the upper left, GET IT? The dentist is identifying which teeth you have, which teeth you have missing and which teeth need work. this allowes the Nurse to record the details on your chart, within your dental records. And as you have work done on a perticular tooth it can be entered on to your chart. Simple answer - it's Dental talk which makes it easy to identify individual teeth.

Each tooth has a number (1-32) . they some times count different areas on the tooth or use a name for the different surfaces on the tooth. I've also worked for dentists that make their own perio measurements and those are all numbers.
The number can also mean a type of cavity, or filling material depending on the dentist
p.s. there is a wrong answer after mine. . .the teeth are numbered from the top right wisdom tooth, the front two teeth are # 8 and # 9!!!

A dentist identifies each tooth in the mouth by a number so that there are no misunderstandings. It's a universal code understood by dentists worldwide. It's a lot easier than saying the 'big tooth near the back next to the one with a small filling'.

HELLO,
THE WAY TEETH ARE NUMBERED DEPENDS ON WHAT PART OF THE WORLD YOU ARE IN.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
HERE IN THE STATES TE TEETH ARE NUMBERED FROM 1-32. IT BEGINS WITH THE UPPER RIGHT WISDOM TOOTH AND FOLLOWING IN ORDER UNTIL IT GETS TO #16 OR THE LAST UPPER LEFT WISDOM TOOTH. THEN, THE COUNTING CONTINUES WITH #17 OR THE LEFT LOWER WISDOM TOOTH. IT CONTINUES ALL AROUND UNTIL IT FINISHES WITH #32 OR THE RIGHT LOWER WISDOM TOOTH.
IN EUROPE THE NUMBERING SYSTEM IS DIFFERENT. THE TEETH ARE COUNTED AS LOCATED IN 4 QUADRANTS. THE FIRST ONE IS THE UPPER RIGHT, THEN THE UPPER LEFT, FOLLOWED BY THE LOWER LEFT, AND THEN THE LOWER RIGHT.
EACH QUADRANT CONTAINS TEETH COUNTED FROM THE FRONT TOWARD THE BACK.
THE REASON WHY THERE IS A NUMBERING SYSTEM IS TO QUICKLY COMMUNICATE WITH THE ASSISTANTS AND OTHER OFFICE PERSONNEL.

bradley is optimal. that's a periodontal screening. We degree the intensity of the pocket that each the tooth sits it to confirm if the gums are healthful. We degree in six places according to the tooth. 3 on the exterior and 3 on the interior. it rather is measured in mm. one million-3mm are healthful numbers. 4's are the 1st sign of irritation. the better the numbers the extra undesirable the area. they are able to pass as much as approximately 12 or so. If there are any numbers that are 6 or above it potential that bone loss is in contact. Bone loss ends up in the tooth loss. It appears like your numbers have been sturdy and sturdy on your dentist for screening you. wish that solutions your query!

Dentists give each tooth a number, so they can identify the tooth when making notes or talking to the dental assistant. If the dentist is saying the number out loud, it's probably because that tooth needs something - maybe a filling, maybe something else. Why not ask the dentist next time?

Your upper and lower jaw are split into four quarters and they are numbered 1-4. In each quarter, each tooth is then numbered from the middle going backwards from 1-8.
The upper right handside wisdom tooth for example has the number 18. The number 1 refering to it belonging to the upper right handside jaw and the number 8 refering to it being the 8th tooth from the middle in that jaw-quarter.
The lower left handside jaw, middle front tooth has the number 41. 4 refering to the lower lefthandside jaw and 1 because it's the first tooth in that jaw quarter.
In the surgery that I work in, we refer to decaying teeth as red. 23 red, 34 red etc.
