I have several years of dental assisting and practice management experience. I enjoy the dental field and the job security I have found within it. In several offices I have successfully increased production and collections while assisting the doctors in lowering overhead and decreasing turnover. Making for much happier dentists. I have a business license now for dental consulting. I want to know as a dentist what you would look for the most when hiring a dental consultant. Have you done it? Would you consider it? What would you want from a consultant? Thank you in advance for your time and input!

is it normal that my jaw still hurts after my widom teeth (all 4) were removed a week ago? I went to the oral surgeon 2 days ago and she said that they looked like they were healing well and she didnt want to break open the new skin if she didnt have to. I am still taking vicodin every few hours and advil as well. I know everyone heals at a different pace but does it usually take this long?

I've been using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth for a few days and I've noticed my tongue feels burny and my lips tingle...like when you've scolded your tongue when drinking a hot drink. Has anyone noticed any side effects such as these when using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth? Thanks.:)

I have had an absess/lump on my top gum/jaw for 10 days. Antibiotics and penicillin haven't had any affect. I had a apexceptomy 20 months ago in the same place. My dentist is now referring me for another one. Why do they fail and if the route of my tooth has already been cut away and filled, what is the point of doing it again? I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but this morning I woke up and felt that my ear was blocked up and I have a very slight ringing in it. I don't know if this is connected (it's the opposite ear to where the abcess is).
Any ideas please?

Are you aware of the new guidelines eliminating many of the previous indications for antibiotic prophylaxis? Go to www.ada.org. It is featured right on the home page as a new item. There are very few indications remaining, including:
Prosthetic valve
History of previous infectious endocarditis
COngenital heart disease (certain forms)
Cardiac transplant patient who develop valvular pathology

Go check it out. The USA is finally joining the rest of the world.

I get this sticky, white substance along my gumline about 1/2 hour after I brush my teeth. I need to swab my mouth with a q-tip to remove it. Anyone know what this is??

I got a cavity filled today. I had two. One was larger and one was a little smaller. I got the larger one filled today (he numbed the area first) and I'm planning on going back pretty soon to get the second one filled. I'd never seen this dentist before, but he seemed pretty competent. After we got done he said that if I returned soon enough to get the second one done, we wouldn't have to numb the area first. Is this normal? Can someone please explain this to me?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a gum addict and I chew gum for at least 5 hours a day. However, i noticed that my articulation skills have been decreasing either with or without gum in my mouth. Is it possible that this is due the extended gum chewing period?

i had 2 fillings done on tuesday, when I went in I told the dentist that my jaw hurt. He gave me extra numbing stuff and did the fillings. Now 2 days later, the pain is so bad I can't sleep and even eating soup is excrusiating. I have tried hot and cold compresses and alturnating tylanol and motrin, and even ambasol and oragel wears off after 10 minutes, nothing I do seems to work. I'm waiting for my dentist to call me back, but what else can I do until then.

I have 2 front teeth crowned - I live in the UK. I need them renrewed as my gums have receeded from around the part where they meet the gum.

I am concerned about the post which goes up into my jaw. During replacement, would the dentist simply crack the tooth from the post or would he need to remove the post too?

I am not sure what they are made of except to say that I have had them for around 12 years.

Replies from Dentists or Detal Nurses/Technicians would be appreciated.

I have a crack in one of my front upper teeth. The crack isn't large enough for a piece of my tooth to completley break off, but it is large enough to cause me pain when exposed to cold and sugar. What should be done about it and how much would it cost?

I just had a "deep cleaning" with a dentist, it was my first visit to him and he urged me to get it. I had read online that deep cleaning must include root planing

So what actually happened? the dentist performed sonic scaling of my teeth and gums. No anesthesia. I've had a sonic cleaning before AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!

I am under the impression that planing requires a different tool than a scaler....right?

And if sonic scaling = deep cleaning then why does that change the price from free (100% covered) to $95 (80% covered)?

Okay, all I have a question. My boyfriend is going to have four of his wisdom teeth removed today with only a local anesthetic. My question is, is it okay for him to take a vicodin (left over from another dental procedure he had done) and a ibuprofen before he goes in, to lessen the chance of pain? He is hard to get numb and also has tmj so it will be quite painful to hold his mouth open for so long.
