I was wondering why I drool so much in my sleep. Lately, especially while I am dreaming, I have awakened in my bed with my pillow covered with my drool. I was wondering if this has something to do with me getting my tooth (31 molar) pulled last month. Somebody help me?!

I don't want to debate whether or not artificial sweeteners are bad for us as a whole... I was just curious if artificial sweeteners are just as bad for your TEETH as regular sugar.

I started thinking about this because I know some parents that let their kids have diet soda (like 7-up) because it doesn't have the sugar in it that's bad for their teeth.

So it got me thinking... Do artificial sweeteners cause cavities or is it just regular sugar? If I'm correct in my limited knowledge about cavities..., cavities are caused when bacteria on the teeth and in the mouth feed on the sugars left in the mouth and that feeding/breaking down of the sugars creates acid that eats away the enamel on the tooth, causing a cavity...

So... does the bacteria feed on artificial sweeteners just the same? Or does the bacteria know the difference?

I've been thinking about this too much lately and I'm driving myself nuts... Thought I'd better leave it to the experts here! Thanks! :)

hello,
I was trying to save some money and bought a dollar CVS toothbrush. The bristles are pretty hard and firm and whenever I use it it makes my gums bleed really badly. I don't mind it, I feel like my teeth are cleaner then my previous brush but could I be damaging my teeth or gums?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out a week and a half ago, and i'm off perkocet now. I went for a check up one week after the surgery, and the doctor said all was fine, and that the wounds were healing well. Lately i've been feeling a toothache sensation though, is that normal? its mainly in my back moulers. Is that just the muscles and what not getting back into chewing and being used?

Well not literally, but they are quite weak and very prone to cavities. I have been to the dentists today to have a cap fitted, and I am fed up of having to arrange my life around dental appointments. (plus im in quite a bit of pain right now). Any food I can eat to help strengthen my teeth or food I should 100% avoid, or any toothpaste reccomendations would be gratefully accepted. Many thanks!

I had my bottom two wisdom teeth removed on 4/13/07. It is now 4/18/07. They were severely impacted. I have been in terrible pain since day 2. The swelling is going down VERY slowly, but the pain is constant. I also have this disgusting, raw-meat taste on the back on my tongue constantly. Is all this pain and this nasty taste normal? I'm on an antibiotic, and also have a prescription mouthwash, so I doubt I have an infection. Any words of wisdom? Thanks.

There are so many choices, & I haven't any idea which one would work the best. I'd like it to be under $40, & it really works. If possible, please give me a website to check out about them. (Not necessary, but I'd really appreciate it). Thanks for your help!

I have a fixed dental bridge since 1988....every dentist said that the dentist who made the bridge did a great job on it, and that my teeth and gums are in good shape. I read in sources that a fixed bridge can last 7 to 10 years, but I have it a lot longer than that....so should it last my whole life (I'm 37 now) or should I expect it to come out one day and then have it replaced?

I'm considering seals for my son(9)'s teeth but know that in the next 4-5 years, he will have braces put on. Can braces be put on teeth with seals on them or do they need to be removed first? I don't want to bother if they'll just need to be removed in a few years.

THIS IS NOT A SPECIFIC DENTAL CONDITION FOR THIS CHILD ONLY, SO IT SHOULD BE A STRAIGHT FORWARD ANSWER ACROSS THE BOARD. DON'T ANSWER: ASK THE DENTIST.
