AMANDA,
THESE IS A REASON WHY IT ONLY COST $ 1.00.
IT WAS SOMETHING THAT THE STORE HAD TO PUT ON SALE TO GET RID OF IT!
MEDIUM OR FIRM-BRISTLED BRUSHES WILL ALWAYS HURT YOUR GUMS AND SHOULD NEVER BE USED FOR BRUSHING TEETH.
YOU JUST BOUGHT A $1.OO SHOE, GRILL, TILE BRUSH...
BE HAPPY YOU DIDN'T CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE UNDERLYING TOOTH DENTIN - THE YELLOWISH PART OF THE TOOTH WHICH IS MUCH SOFTER THAN THE ENAMEL (WHITE) ON TOP. IT CAN BE EASILY ABRADED BY BRUUSHING WITH A FIRM BRUSH

Yes it is OK to use a dollar toothbrush. The important issue here is that you use it regularly. If your gums are bleeding that could be a symptom of gum disease or other health disorders. Be sure that when you also floss every day! Possibly you need a softer toothbrush but to be on the safe side you should see a dentist about those bleeding gums.
You don't want to lose that beautiful smile!!!

It may work all right for now, but I've found that cheaper toothbrushes fray more quickly. Mine lasted a month. I started buying the quality toothbrushes again and they've lasted me longer. Bristles that are too hard can damage your gums though if you apply too much pressure. I've read that people generally press about 50% too hard when they're brushing. So using a quality toothbush with good bristles should help in that regard also.

Yes, u r damaging ur gums if u brush w/hard bristles. It'll cause gum recession that changes ur smile and money to fix. Switch to a soft bristle asap!! Bleeding, not due to gum disease, is a sure fire sign u should switch. Only use the hard ones for cleaning around the house!

It is probably fine, but I would recommend buying soft bristle toothbrushes if the hard ones make your gums bleed. You can find these at the Dollar Store or almost anywhere else!

If your gums are bleeding really badly it's a sign that it's not good. Use a softer toothbrush, or change the way you're brushing.

Using the dollar tooth brush is okay but I think Dentists and Hygienists rec commend a softer brush these days The harder bristles can damage your tooth enamel but look around you could still find a softer cheap one too.
