I have had an absess/lump on my top gum/jaw for 10 days. Antibiotics and penicillin haven't had any affect. I had a apexceptomy 20 months ago in the same place. My dentist is now referring me for another one. Why do they fail and if the route of my tooth has already been cut away and filled, what is the point of doing it again? I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but this morning I woke up and felt that my ear was blocked up and I have a very slight ringing in it. I don't know if this is connected (it's the opposite ear to where the abcess is).
Any ideas please?

you gave gum or tooth infection and straight away it affects ear and nose, throat.you will have ear ache and fever as these are all related to same thing.so you need to see the dentist as this infection has made the gum swollen.do gargle with hot water and salt and winger 2-3 times daily and within a week it will be all OK.Eat garlic raw to stop the infection and ear pain or ringing.Do not blow your nose heavily.

It is unlikely that a second apicectomy will cure the problem. I take it that the tooth has been root-filled at some point. The treatment that will most likely succeed is to repeat the root filling then make sure that the restoration afterwards (filling, crown) is well sealed to prevent bacteria from gaining access to the root system.

Research shows that the so-called coronal seal is probably the single most significant factor in the failure of root fillings.

Having said all that, it is sometimes impossible to retreat the tooth and this is where apicectomy comes in.

Incidentally, would it be a catastrophe if you lost the tooth? That would definitely solve the problem.

Doubt if the ear thing is connected if it's on the other side. If it were the same side then the answer might well be yes.

Wow! I'd never go thru all that, just get it yanked out. It always worked for me.
