I'm a gum addict and I chew gum for at least 5 hours a day. However, i noticed that my articulation skills have been decreasing either with or without gum in my mouth. Is it possible that this is due the extended gum chewing period?

If you chew gum so much it could affect articulation only because when you have gum in your mouth it is sometimes not possible to enunciate words properly. When you no longer have gum in your mouth, and because you are in the habit of having one in your mouth, you might still subconsciously think that you have gum in your mouth and you would therefore speak like there is still gum in your mouth, unknowingly "swallowing" your words in the process.

Your articulation problem is affected by the fact that you spend more time chewing gum than speaking. Articulation needs nto be practice, too and the only way to do that is to speak without the gum.

It could be because all the muscles of your mouth have become accustomed to creating speech while there's gum being chewed, which might make it hard to talk without it. but I'm not entirely sure.

THE MUSCLES INVOLVED IN THE CHEWING CYCLE ARE BEING OVER-EXERTED. THERE MUST BE SOME TIME TO REST. YOU'RE NOT SUPPSED TO CHEW FOOD FOR 5 HOURS WHEN YOU EAT, SO WHY DO IT WITH GUM? LET YOUR JAW REST.

it might be because when you chew gum a lot your jaws get tired

With over using any muscle you need to give them time to rest and relax. You should cut back.
