Thursday morning at the dentist, I couldn't pin point the exact tooth that hurt so he settled on the one with the cap and said he'd do a root canal in 4 to 6 weeks. He couldn't see anything on the X-Ray. In the mean time I'm taking amoxicillin and 800 mg ibuprofen. At noon I took two amoxicillin and my teeth didn't hurt too much, but still hurt some. But the next morning one specific tooth began to ache horribly! And it's not the one he chose; it's the one in front of it! I called back the office to ask when the pain will stop and whether I should come back. She said three days, and I come back next Friday. I can't stand the pain. I have to watch my son and I get so angry. I've never had anything like this happen in 34 years, never pain like this that wouldn't stop with medication. I've been putting ice. I don't know how I can trust the dentist if he was going to root canal one tooth and now it's clearly another? Last night I had trouble sleeping because of it. Do I need percocet?

I had my wisdom teeth extracted on Thursday (Oct. 12). Its been more than 48 hours. My cheeks are all stitched up, it feels like the stitches are pinching my flesh. The sockets don't hurt, but my cheeks are swollen and very stiff. I feel like I am chewing on the insides of my cheeks. I feel like there are rocks in my cheeks. My oral surgeon gave me a perscription for 800 mg. Motrin and an oral rinse. I went thru the first bottle of 15 pills already. I'm not bleeding anymore, but my entire jaw just ACHES! Will it ever go away? I'm so tired of feeling lousy, I just want to enjoy the TIGERS in the ALCS.

I don't ever want to have this done again! LOL

How long will I suffer like this???

I had another question about how to stopped the bleeding on an extracted tooth, but now I ask: How often should I change the gauze?

Some have said wait 30min, check to see if it's still bleeding, if so, place a new gauze on it and re-do. Others have said an hour, some have said 4. One dentist even said you don't need to change it unless it becomes soaked in blood. (which I thought would be a leading cause of infections...)

I ask, what time limit to check and change is the best to promote clotting? When is it time to remove the gauze and just not wear it anymore?

My other tooth healed right away, such as when I removed the gauze there was some dried blood, but nothing fresh, so I left it uncovered and it's been fine since. But -this- tooth socket is just so... ARGH frustrating.

Before you get braces on, like when they tell you to set up the appointments to get teeth pulled, if the assistant of the orthodontist says you will probably need braces for a year, is this accurate, or just a guess?????

A friend of mine doesn't have dental coverage at the moment and he needs to see a dentist right away. He has an infection/abcess and he's in a lot of pain. Is there something like an ER for dental emergencies?

she has been to her dentist a number of times and yesterday he cleaned it out yet again, went deep into the socket, which required stiches. my question is this " does she need to be on antibiotics" everytime she returns from the dentist i am expecting her to be on something. he says that she doesn't need them. anyone out there that has had this problem and has taken antibiotics, and if so, did they help.

I have had a cusp fracture for over a year and my dentist wants to extract. It happened when the piece of filling that held it in place fell out. It doesn't cause me any pain and I use plenty of non alcoholic mouthwash. Can this cause a bacterial infection that would turn the tongue at the back of the mouth furry and textured? I've had major intestinal problems from a reaction to penicillan last year so it may be related to that. I did notice it got better when I did the raw garlic treatment! Thanks for your help.

All the 6y OMFS ( OMFS+MD) programs are for ADA-accredited dental schools graduates. Is there a way of getting a medical degree from the USA for OMFS surgeons who got training in OMFS in USA but dental degree from abroad? I know 1 way is through the university of antigua but some people says it provides inferior training.. Is there any other way??? thank you.

I know this is probably asked way too often, but I'm curious if anyone knows what a rough estimate cost would be for dental surgery. I have 2 teeth that never grew in that need to be brought down from inside my gums. The rest of my teeth just need to be straightened and maybe 1 filling redone. Then I need most of them to be straightened and lined up real nice. I have 28 teeth. (wisdom teeth gone). Anyone have any idea how much this would cost? Even a rough estimate would be appreciated. I can give more details if needed. Oh yea I forgot to mention, they all need to be bleached. Thanks in advance.
