First off, I agree with the other answers with regards to cleaning and if the gum is sugarless like Trident there are studies that prove it actually helps prevent tooth decay after meals if you can not brush. However, the bigger concern is your TMJ (jaw joint), the constant chewing of gum can do damage to your joint. It may cause undue stress to this joint and cause pain and tenderness down the road.

Chewing gum can be good or bad depending on what gum you chose. By the way, chewing gum burns calories so give yourself a pat on the back that irrespective of the effects it has on your teeth its helping you burn calories (not enough to substitute it for exercise though lol!) Chewing sugar gum can be bad for your teeth because it decreases the resistance of your teeth to cavity causing bacteria. If you continuely chew it then it keeps your teeth in the acidic environment for longer and thus promotes cavities. A solution to this is sugarless gum or gum with xylitol which on the contrary protects your teeth from bacteria. Trident is a well known brand. Hope this helps!

It may actually better for you as the stimulation of saliva will wash the teeth free of debris. It would make sense to keep chewing the same piece for a long time to minimize sugar intake, but after some minutes most of the sugar will be gone anyway. I keep my chewing gum on the bedpost overnight and have been chewing the same piece since 1956.

Its not a bad thing to chew gum, just make sure it is sugar free. You can get it at any store. It dosn't taste as wonderful as some of the big bubble gum, but its 100% better for your teeth!

Maybe, we're alike in this situation, I chew chewing gum multiple times, to be exact 4 times, and after that I will brush my teeth so good so it will not break...
Maybe give (your teeth) a good brush after chewing...

I think people who chew gum look like cows, give it up and start taking some kind of mints. Look better because you can't see it.

its not too bad for your teeth if its sugar free but causes problems with your gut as your gut thinks it is getting food and can produce too much acid.
