I had three metal fillings done a couple of days ago, one was quite big, the other two were just little ones. They're quite sensitive to hot and cold at the minute, particularly the bigger one.

This is the first time I've ever had fillings, so I don't know anything about it - how long will the sensitivity last for? And the dentist said that the bigger one was really quite deep and there was a VERY small chance it might actually need a root canal......how will I know whether it does or not?

I am 28, with two kids, and have wanted my teeth fixed for years. My top jaw is too narrow so I need jaw surgery before I could get braces. But I can't afford it! It bothers me so much and now I hardly ever smile. I cry about it all the time. People have made such mean comments to me throughout the years because of my teeth and it hurts. I kind of became anti-social because of it. Every picture I see has people with perfect white teeth, but not everyone can afford a perfect smile, but why are people so rude when someone has messed up teeth? Its like they feel they have to point it out as if I don't know.

Every morning for the past few weeks I wake up with this white junk between my lip and teeth. What is it? I brush my teeth twice a day but I always get this white stuff recently. I got it a few times like months ago, but recently its happened daily.

I had a root canal done on a painful tooth on Monday morning after a filling failed. I was still having a lot of pain from the tooth yesterday, it felt like a pressure inside the tooth and I couldn't really bite on it. Today when I was eating my breakfast I got a really bad taste in my mouth and discovered that the temporary filling had fallen out. I've still got a horrible taste in my mouth coming from the tooth but it doesn't hurt half as much now that the filling's come out.

It seems to me that I might have had an infection in the tooth and now the filling's come out it's draining into my mouth and causing the bad taste.........does that sounds possible?

And what should I do now? I'm due back at the dentist on Friday to have a permanent filling put in the tooth, should I wait until then or do I need to go back and have the temporary replaced before then? Also, does it sound like I need antibiotics?

They said I I had advanced gum disease that's why my teeth were loose and coming out. I don't have any teeth at all now, and my mouth is still so sore. I have to go back to the dentist on Tuesday to get checked and get some stitiches out, but I was wondering how long it will be before I start to feel "normal" again.

I've heard a lot of claims that those ones with U.V. lights work really well and also those with carbamide peroxide, but have also heard claims about it being unsafe at certain concentrations.
