As a last minute decision I want to be able to go to Mauritius on February 2nd but as I've never been abroad before I thought I would contact my local GP's surgery and was told I have to go through a lengthly process of filling out forms and waiting to be seen! I then discovered on another website that I am at risk of yellow fever and malaria and that these immunisations need to be in your body for 6 weeks to be effective! I'm pretty worried now that i'm not going to be able to go after spending £1090 on plane tickets on a last minute deal. Ive heard there are emergency clinics that will do this straight away but charge you but can't find anyone remotely local. Can anyone help advise me on this. My partners step father seems to think I dont need any jabs to go to Mauritius but I have never ever been abroad before in my life. Someone please help, am very stressed and worried.

I just got a call from my dr that my cholesterol level is 245. This is the first time I've ever been diagnosed as having high cholestrol. I am 27 years old, don't smoke, in the normal range of weight for my height, exercise 5 days a week for 60 minutes. What else could be causing this?

my husband will take out the trash and not wash his hands. he went and picked up the dog poop outside and came in and didn't wash his hands (apparently, he didn't touch anything but the plastic bag!). the guy i work with goes to the bathroom and then doesn't wash his hands.
i've seen lots of guys do this one!
what is up with that???
do you think we would be healthier if guys started washing their hands more??

p.s. i'm kind of messing around, but i'm kind of serious too.!

I am very concerned about my 69 yr old sister who falls asleep anywhere and at any time. This has been going on for years and is a family joke now. She goes to bed at about 8 or 9, sleeps straight through, and gets up at 4. It can be embarassing for her in church, at a party, or at a dinner (even the daily family dinner). She goes to the theatre, but sleeps through most of the performances. If someone is sitting and talking to her, she falls asleep during the conversation. Her doctor tells her that her health is ok. She leads an active life, exercises daily and her weight and diet are fine. Is there a sleep study that can assess her problem or is it a problem?

I am interested in getting on the depo shot. The thing is, I don't have any health insurance right now and will be paying entirely out of pocket. What is the average cost right now for depo?

Also, for the girls on the shot right now, do you still get the side effects of your period, even though you don't have them anymore? Specifically the cramps. My cramps have always been bad, and they're starting to get alot worse as I get older. (1st two days I'm usually completely out of commission.)

Thanks.

i think adhd is just a poor excuse for rubbish parenting, i know children that have this, that in my view, have just been allowed to do what they want, say what they want, destroy what they want, but their parents just say "oh hes adhd"!
i know about 8 of these children, and i only believe one of them actually has something like that! please explain why you do or dont? thankyou

I have a 3 year old. He stays with his aunt (since birth) 3 days a week, and we have started, for about 3 months, taking him to a family friend, who homeschools, for preschool. He was fine the first week, but now it has gotten to the point where he won't get up, won't get dressed, he stood at the door and cried this morning, AND THEN, when I drop him off, he goes hysterical...crying like crazy and won't let go. Who do I go to for a professional opinion on this..my doctor or a psychologist, or anyone else?

My workplace toilets are really scummy and smelly. Most of the time I try and hold it until I get home because there is all kinds of nastiness on the toilet seats. When I go, I never sit on the seat anyway as I'm worried I'll catch something. Someone told me this was impossible and you can't catch STI's from the toilet seat. Is that right or am I right not to sit on the seat?

For the past few days i've had random twitching ( or rather, it feels like blood throbbing ) around my eyes and eyebrows, cheeks and basically anywhere on my left side of the face. When i blink, my left eye doesn't seem to close completely and its slightly hard to wink with my left eye. Sleeping is normal though. My lips also seem to be affected, its all normal but somehow i cannot completely control my upper left lip and it gets slightly hard to chew. My face looks completely normal, unlike the drooping signs of Bells Palsy. Anyone have any idea what i might have? I'm only 20 and perfectly healthy. Its only irritating because of the throbbing and the affecting of my eating habits/

I just noticed a bump on my right wrist right belown my thumb and has been giving off pain at work for a couple days. I just started working again (at the place I was before 4 months ago), but the bump has been there minimally for sometime with no pain.

I had trauma (19 stitches) put in my wrist after working on a window but they are no where near the bump.

Is it carpal tunnel or just a bump or cyst?

My Heart doctor wants me to consult with a hospital dietition to develop a low cholesterol regimen that I can live with. I have an active lifestyle, must eat many meals in restaurants, am taking Niaspan and a statin, but the LDL is still too high. I have 2 stents in cardiac arteries, so I think the consult is medically necessary, but the bureaucracy often sees things differently. The Dr. has given me the orders on a prescription form. Will Medicare pay?
