Not in a free society as bad as smoking is people have a right to smoke. In America you are given certain rights and one is the freedom of choice.
Also at one time a law was passed making it illegal to drink Alcohol the period was called prohibition. People began making their own alcohol and selling it to others. many people even went blind or died because the alcohol was not made correctly.
So if they banned smoking people would still find a way to produce, sell and use tobacco. In fact it would most likely be smuggled into the country from Europe, Canada or Mexico where smoking is more prevalent. The good news is Americans are starting to really get smarter and are turning away from smoking.
It would be nice if we could get everyone to stop smoking but again they have a right. If someday someone took over America and turned the country into a dictatorship then possibly they would outlaw it, but then you would lose all your rights and have someone else dictate what you could or could not do. Not a good thing.
The good news is that many states have passed laws Sayng people have no right to smoke inside public buildings as their smoking was impacting the lives of others and they do not have the right to in essence make other people sick from their freedom of choice to smoke.
Good question though.
Peace.

Now you've condemned smoking, see you have been fooled by the propaganda that has been spread. Now before you get on your high horse, consider this and this is from the great never wrong medical mob. Ulcers of the stomach, for 100 years they blamed smoking, drinking alcohol, coffee, spicy foods, stress etc. Gee, did they get that wrong. Next, more non smokers get lung cancer than smokers, FACT. Maybe the shite that's belched into the atmosphere by companies and cars have something to do with that. Also, do you know what. The 2 people (M & F) that hold the record for living the longest were both smokers. OK, so you want it banned. Are you in the good old USA. Well, they tried prohibition, gee, that worked, didn't it? I'll tell you something here about human nature, "forbidden fruit". Ban it and you'll make it even more attractive. Like a martyr, and we know who was the biggest martyr in history, don't we? His initials, JFC!

Well love, when you speak of banning smoking, for some people, it sounds like you're banning them from breathing air :) It's a matter of global awareness, which is a hard thing to achieve. I was a heavy smoker; started smoking when I was 12 and by the grace of god i just stopped last January. Your intentions and dislikes are very well understood :) For a better relief, why don't you join an organization of healthy hearts and follow the busy campaign of anti-smoking? try to find one by your area :)
Stay healthy yourself :)

You are talking about legislating morality.
If you ban (not band, dear) smoking, imagine the other things that the majority might feel are immoral; is it right to compel others to do what you think is right?

No, and they shouldn't. It's still a free country, and people can chose to smoke, even if it's bad for them. And what comes next? They'll ban booze, most fast food, then roller blades (God forbid, you might fall!!).

So nice of you to be a big brother/sister to people who never asked for it.
We live in America, the land of the brave and the FREE!
People have died by the thousands and thousands to allow other people to do as they see fit.
To do what they enjoy.
Why not complain about alcohol abuse and the number of innocent victims it claims EVERY year?
Why not complain about people who eat too much and lead themselves to an early grave and cost society with their various medical problems as a result of over eating?
Why not stop every single vehicle and business that POLLUTES the air and gives us pulmonary diseases and is causing:
1) global warming resulting in a thinner ozone layer which increases the risk of skin cancers.
2) deadly hurricane and drought conditions that kill, maim and leave indigent thousands and thousands of people.
3) acid rain that damages our cars, homes and raises the PH level of our soil, rivers, lakes and oceans.
I'm not just a smoker, I like to smoke big fat noxious cigars and I love annoying the hell out of non-smokers when I light up a fat one in the open FREE air at a craft show downtown or at a fair or even at a parade.
I love hearing the fake little coughs that try to tell me, "excuse me you are invading my air space", to which I exhale an extra large cloud of noxious fumes in every direction.
These are the same pissant people who complain about the performance of who they elected as president or who they elected as congressman or senator and yet they, themselves have NEVER and will NEVER put anything "on the line" to see to it that we continue to have freedom.
I was in the Army for 7 years and an Infantry soldier for 4 (yeah, I was a grunt), my father served in the Army in the special forces and my grandfather served in the Army in France.
I feel obliged to let you and every other pissant remember why our county is great!
So keep on whining and I'll keep on blowing smoke in your face.
Have a nice day! .!..

I agree!!! I watched my mom die from it!! I sat there and was her care giver for the last 2 months of her life...I was there when she went from talking and able to sit and do crossword puzzles to sleeping, losing control of her bodily functions and watched this BEAUTIFUL woman that I would die for slip away...WHY?! Cause she, knowing it would kill her....smoked! SHe tried several times over my life time to quit! She left behind not only my father...but myself and my siblings..and several grandchildren...ONE she never even got to meet! My son, Adam was only a year when she passed...and he's got her flaming RED hair like she had...and every time I look at him ...I see so much of her...sorry..I went off again...like I do when THIS subject comes up!!
It rips familys apart...do you know that a pack of cigs can buy 2 gallons of milk...ALOT better for you and more than one person can benifit from it...SMOKING?! NOT ON YOUR LIFE!! I think that smoking is a nasty, disgusting habit that unfortuantely targets younger people!! I have never smoked a day in my life..I'll be 42 in March...my mom?! Would have been 67 this coming year!! She's missed so much from this filthy thing!! I'm glad that they have banned it from resturants and bars...I'm glad those who smoke have to stand OUTSIDE in a designated area to smoke those CANCER STICKS! IN THE RAIN...snow...sleet!! FUNNY?! THe same things people won't leave their house to drive in...they'll step outside and get soaked during a rain storm... to have their cigarette break!! Next time someone says MIND IF I SMOKE?! Say...NOPE MIND IF I FART?! Let them deal with that...
BAN SMOKING AND YOU'LL HAVE A HEALTHY PLANET!!!

Smoking could be banned forever, but it's big bucks. It's all about making profit........smoking should be banned forever, or making it illegal.
