I just noticed a bump on my right wrist right belown my thumb and has been giving off pain at work for a couple days. I just started working again (at the place I was before 4 months ago), but the bump has been there minimally for sometime with no pain.

I had trauma (19 stitches) put in my wrist after working on a window but they are no where near the bump.

Is it carpal tunnel or just a bump or cyst?

Need to say the typical first : You should have a doctor check this out..

Now, what I think: Sounds like a Ganglion Cyst to me. I’ve had one as well.
**** Please note.. I did the barbaric treatment (mentioned at the end of my info). – Smashed a book on it. – It went away quickly after that.
But here is the full info:

A wrist ganglion cyst is a swelling that usually occurs over the back of the hand or wrist. These are benign, fluid-filled capsules. Ganglion cysts are not cancerous, will not spread, and while they may grow in size, they will not spread to other parts of your body.

Where did the wrist ganglion cyst come from?
Ganglion cysts arise as outpouchings from fluid filled areas such as the fluid within the small joints of the wrist, or fluid within the sheath that surrounds the wrist tendons. When the fluid, called synovial fluid, leaks out from these spaces, it can become a cystic structure.

What is the fluid within the wrist ganglion cyst?
The fluid is identical to the normal fluid found within a joint or within a tendon sheath. The fluid can become gelatinous over time.

Will the ganglion cyst go away?
Sometimes, wrist ganglion cysts go away with no treatment, most of the time they linger around or even grow larger. Some cysts form a type of one-way valve such that fluid enters the cyst easily, but cannot escape. When the ganglion cyst becomes large enough, it will begin to put pressure on surrounding structures. This pressure can cause painful symptoms, and is usually the reason these ganglion cysts are removed.

How can a wrist ganglion cyst be removed?
There are several methods of treatment that are possible. Putting a needle into the ganglion cyst and aspirating the fluid may work. However, the gelatinous fluid within the cyst does not always come through a needle very well. Furthermore, this treatment leaves the cyst lining behind, and the ganglion cyst will return about 50% of the time.

Another alternative, that some call traditional, others call a bit barbaric, is to smash the wrist ganglion cyst with a hard object such as a book. This pops the cyst, and ruptures the lining of the cyst. Because the lining is disrupted, the smashed ganglion cyst may not return quite as often as those drained by a needle. However, many patients are uncomfortable with their doctor 'whacking' a book against their wrist.

could just be a cyst....but you can have it easily checked out by a doctor. I've gotten them before...not sure what causes them---sometimes they would hurt and other times not, and I've had a few that just went away on their own. But it's still a good idea to get it checked.....better to know for sure what it is!

Would recommend to get it looked before doing anything. You might alter a side affect if you do not see a doctor. If it's your carpal tunnel you have no choice but to get it operated. That's why you should always consult a trainer or P.E teacher if you do any kind of exercise.

I had the same thing when I was in graduate school. It was from typing for hours on end--are you doing a lot of typing? I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he gave me a shot in the bump and it went away quickly, as did the pain.

I had one of those before. Its called a gangolier cyst.(unsure of the spelling) It is harmless and should go away be itself. Try not to irritate it though. If it gets to painful, then call your doctor. They may have to drain it.
