I'm seriously considering becoming a lacto-vegetarian due to some stomach and digestive health problems I've been having. My only problem is that I absolutely hate beans (canned, not green or waxed) and lentils. I just find the texture is disgusting and I have a really hard time eating them (during and after). Does a vegetarian diet have to consist of these veggies/legumes, or can I eat something else as a substitute? Thanks!

I know I'll have a hard time becoming a vegetarian for two reasons. 1-my mom would become a vegetarian so she'll still always cook meals with meat in it. and 2-I grew up eating meat. and being black (even though its not really a real reason), a lot of the soulfood that is cook consists of a lot of pork and chicken, and beef too i guess. and it's hard for me to escape that in my family.
anyways, what I'm asking is, what should I do? my entire family eats meat with every meal. someone please help.
oh yeah, and 3- I loooooove shellfish how can I break that when going to Red Lobster? do i really have to so i can be full vegetarian?

I have some Hershey's unsweetened baking chocolate. The ingredients are: chocolate and cocoa. Could this possibly contain any animal products? Or does it just mean that it is the whole cacao bean?

I do not really feel one needs to eat meat, and want to avoid it. It is high in calories, and I am overweight, 25 lbs. Part of being a vegeterian is getting away from the idea that meat has to be the center of a meal. This can be unhealtful in especially that pork, larger portions of red meat have large number of calories. We develop habits. I do not see the reason to have meat as the center of the meal.

But one does have to get sufficient protein and vitamins. I am taking vitamins. My father got very anti-meat, and despite being otherwise healthy, got anemia. Also, one has to watch for veggies that have too high calories. For example, last night I fixed macroni and used no fat "butter" spray and no fat milk.

Suggestions on diet would be much appreciated.

I know yogurt has beneficial bacteria to aid digestion. Does plain yogurt have more than fruit yogurt? I seem to think I've heard that before, but I don't remember for certain. Thanks for any input!

I was reading about Robert William Pickton,on March 10, 2004, it was revealed that human flesh may have been ground up and mixed with pork from the farm. This pork was never distributed commercially, but was handed out to friends and visitors of the farm. Another claim made is that he fed the bodies directly to his pigs.
Do you think human meat has ended up in the normal supply of meat?Like possibly a finger from someone getting injured at a slaughterhouse or something?
Is it considered cannibalism if you eat human meat second hand(through an aniaml that ate a human)?

I just decided to become a vegetarian four days ago. My parents are fine with it, they just want me to do some research. I just don't understand the differant nutrients that im missing, or getting, or anything on that topic.

(I'm 15, girl (duh), and my parents are still making me eat fish.)

which im having a problem with. I want to cut out all meat from my diet, and they say I have to eat more FISH!!!

So does anyone have any info, or suggestions, or anything? Thanks Soooo much!

and for any of you that think this is just a "phase", go on thinking that. Maybe it is. I just really hope it's not.

Are Burger King/Mc Donalds' french fries meat free? Do they conform to the various levels of not-eating-meat-diets for Vegetarians, Vegans and/or Roman Catholics on Fridays in Lent? Just curious.

There are so many catagories in food and drink that contain information and recipes about meat of all types. The vegetarians and vegans have one little catagory to share ideas and recipes. Why do you find it necessary to come in here and pick on us for not eating meat? Can you not just go troll the other areas, find your recipes, and leave us alone? We are not a bunch of crunchy earth people with weird ideas. We are people who chose to eat differently for a number of reasons. Why be so cruel? It really just makes you look bad. What is the point in being mean spirited? It annoys me when I see a post clearly aimed at vegetarians or vegans, and you come strolling in spewing your ideas about eating dead animals. Please be a little more considerate of others. For those of you who post thoughful insights, thank you.
