I just decided to become a vegetarian four days ago. My parents are fine with it, they just want me to do some research. I just don't understand the differant nutrients that im missing, or getting, or anything on that topic.

(I'm 15, girl (duh), and my parents are still making me eat fish.)

which im having a problem with. I want to cut out all meat from my diet, and they say I have to eat more FISH!!!

So does anyone have any info, or suggestions, or anything? Thanks Soooo much!

and for any of you that think this is just a "phase", go on thinking that. Maybe it is. I just really hope it's not.

Re. fish: hit a health food store and look at the fish oil supplements. Don't buy one. Keep looking; there'll be a bottle in there somewhere that says something like 'Omega 3-6-9, from vegetarian sources'...

...if you like. It's not as though fish are harbouring something magical you can't get elsewhere.

Your iron intake can easily be kept at a good level by eating dark leafy greens.

Protein shouldn't be much of a worry if you're eating eggs and dairy.

Caveat: PETA is big on mailing people 'Vegetarian Starter Kits' that're actually a lot of brainwashing, filled with inedible recipes, and -- vegan. Don't bother.

I agree with the above poster that it's too big a question -- hit the library. This

should be useful, too.

Congratulations! I stopped eating meat when I was younger then that and looking back I never got enough protein. Then I learned about Tempeh- so yummy!!! It's better for you then tofu and it has a better consistency I think. Your parents want to make sure you're getting enough Omega3 which is in fish, you can get that from things made with flax seed or it's oil. Tuna has high mercury levels so be aware of that too.
About the tempeh, it's next to the tofu at the health food store. I like to cut it up into cubes and add it to my pasta sauce, or stir fry it with veggies. It doesn't have anyflavor though so you have to cook it with some sort of sauce. my roommate covers it in soy sauce and bakes it, that's really good too.
Good luck to you and welcome to the team.

Vitamin B 12 can come from whole grains and many things. You dont need fish, take a vitamin supplement that will provide missing nutrients, look for vegetarian ones. Protein is easily gotten from beans, peas, nuts, veggie burgers, edaname,, and soy stuff. Good for you! its not just a phase!

1. I'm sorry but you're not a vegitarian if you eat FISH Vegitarians don't eat flesh at all
2. Take vitamins. I use GNC's Mega Multi Vitamin For Teens, I think they're on sale atthe moment too
3. Oh, and igf you want to stop eating fish [very proud of you there] then tell your parents how wrong it is to kill other beings. And find more reasons at the link I'm about to put it.

I am thinking of going vegan as whell...they probably want you to get thet omega 3 from the fish and stuff....I dont think they should make you eat fish...figure out all the nutrients you recieve from fish..then you find other foods that are vegan frendly...that will give you the same nutrients as fish...they cant ignore that...

alot of vegetarians eat fish it is very healthy just realise that you need to incorporate alot of soy products into your diet being vegetarian is alot more than just eating fruits and salads.have you ever eaten soy? you need the protiens especially at 15 .remember to do your home work for this life style alot of foods are animal related like gelatin for, instance alot of cream soups are made with chicken broth .it is a major lifestyle change and it can be a very healthy one at that if you do it right . good luck with it.

my parents STILL stay the same thing and its been a year now that i have been a veggie, but i dotn eat fish but anyway, with out meat you are missing iron and protein.

ways to make up for this is

protein:tofu,lentils,beans,ect.

iron: and iron supplment should really take care of it.(it keeps up your iron and takes away fatigue. if you dont get iron your get exteremly tired.)out the iron suplment in orange jucie

and cut back on carbs and eat alot of dark veggies (broccoli, spinach) and colorful veggies(bell peppers)ect.

and you will be good.

peace out babe.
keep the veggie going.
